At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I feel it now—a fresh pulse layered over the old decay. This isn't just ruins; someone's feeding the ward. Merrin, keep that crossbow ready but don't fire unless absolutely necessary—we need to map these skeleton patrols first before we stumble into their command center. Varikka, signal the others to hold formation and stay quiet. If we're lucky it's some necromancer getting greedy with leftovers, but I doubt luck is with us tonight.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin steps forward into the unknown, crossbow at the ready. The air is thick with the weight of history and the sour tang of dark magic. I can feel the pulse of the ward against my skin like a sick heartbeat. Halie, keep that holy symbol ready. We're not dealing with simple decay here—something's feeding this foul presence.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The weight of this place presses down like a shroud. Wrongness in the air, foul and hungry, seeping into bones. Not just decay, but something active. I can feel it in my scars. Skeletons, undead remnants of this tower's defenders, animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home. We stand at the base, weary from days of travel through treacherous lands to reach this crumbling stone. The Time-Splitting Sword waits within, said to be warded by horrors and sorcery. But first we must secure the entrance, assess what moves in the shadows before we step into their lair. I heft my heavy mace, ready to face the unknown dangers ahead. "Halie, Merrin - stay sharp. Keep your weapons ready. Jeane, if you can feel that magic, trace it back to the source. We need to understand what we're dealing with before it notices us."

The air is thick with the weight of history and the sour tang of dark magic. I can feel the pulse of the ward against my skin like a sick heartbeat. Something's changed in this place since we last came here. The ward isn't just old magic failing, something's feeding it fresh power. I step forward to face whatever horrors await us within these cursed walls. But I do not mistake bravery for foolishness. We must be cautious and vigilant, or we may well become part of the undead horde ourselves.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I feel it first—the tower's heartbeat, wrong and hungry. The ward isn't dead, someone's feeding it. This is no simple ruin. Merrin, keep your cross steady but don't fire until you see bone move. Jeane, if you can trace that magic, do it quickly and quietly. We need to know what's expecting us before it wakes up.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand at the edge of our small camp, the flickering firelight casting long shadows across the crumbling stones of the tower's base. The air here is thick with the weight of history, a tangible presence that presses down like a shroud. It's more than just decay; there’s a wrongness to it, a foul and hungry energy seeping into my bones.
My eyes scan the entrance, noting the strange, almost pulsing quality of the light coming from within. It reminds me of something living, and not in a good way. The hair on the back of my neck stands up as I feel the ward’s presence against my skin, like a sick heartbeat counting down to some unspoken doom.
The heavy mace feels suddenly inadequate in my hand. This isn’t just an old ruin filled with dust and bones; something is feeding this magic, layering fresh power over ancient decay. My mind races through possible spells, trying to prepare for whatever fresh horror might be waiting inside.
"Varikka, I think we should approach this with extreme caution," I call out, my voice a low murmur that barely carries over the crackling of the fire. My gaze meets hers, and I see my own apprehension reflected back at me. "This ward wasn’t failing—someone was feeding it. And that means whatever lies within those walls is likely much more dangerous than we anticipated."
I turn back to the dark maw of the tower entrance, a shiver running down my spine despite the heat from the fire. The wrongness in the air feels personal now, like an ancient evil has sensed our presence and begun to stir. My fingers tighten around the mace handle, even as I wish I had brought something more suited for this kind of magic.
My eyes dart to Merrin, then Halie, gauging their reactions. We all feel it—the pressure, the hunger. The question isn’t whether we should enter; it’s how we survive whatever comes at us once we do.
