Round 14 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.
I take a slow breath, letting the heavy air of the crumbling tower fill my lungs. The magic here is thick, cloying. It isn't just old power lingering in stone, but something fresh, almost alive. I can feel it pressing against my skin like a physical weight. The skeletons aren't just mindless shells anymore. They move with purpose, coordinated. This isn't the work of some ancient necromantic ritual left to play out. Someone—something—is actively fueling these wards.
I glance at Merrin, her crossbow held ready at her hip. Her eyes are wide but steady. Good. We need all our wits about us in this place. I turn my gaze to the tower's interior, where shadows twist and writhe.
"Jeane," I murmur, keeping my voice low. "That fresh pulse... it feels directed. Not just a reaction, but an active intent. We're not alone here."
I tighten my grip on the crossbow, scanning the crumbling corridor ahead. The air is thick with the weight of history and the sour tang of dark magic. I can feel the pulse of the ward against my skin like a sick heartbeat. These skeletons aren't just mindless remnants shambling about - they're moving with purpose, almost as if someone or something is directing them.
I feel the tower's magic, thick and wrong. The skeletons move too purposefully, like a pack of hounds scenting blood. We need to be ready for more than mindless undead. Halie, Merrin, I need your eyes. Jeane, anything you can tell us about that fresh pulse? It feels like trouble's coming, and we need to meet it head on.
I feel it too—the ward isn't just decaying, it's being fed. Those skeletons aren't mindless things; something's directing them. We should approach with extreme caution. Jeane, can you sense what's powering this? Merrin, keep that crossbow ready but don't fire unless absolutely necessary—we need to know if whatever's in here is intelligent enough to negotiate or just... more undead.
The ward pulses again, wrong rhythm. These aren't shamblers we're dealing with—I can taste the intent behind their movements. Something's directing them now, probably upstairs where the magic feels thickest. We need to map skeleton patrol routes first before going deeper, identify any command center they might report back to. Merrin, keep that crossbow ready but don't fire unless absolutely necessary—we don't want to alert whatever's coordinating this fresh undead activity. Varikka, signal the others to hold formation and stay quiet. I'm casting a subtle spell to track their movements. If we're lucky, it's just some lingering dark ritual that reactivated recently. If we're not lucky... well, let's hope Halie's light can handle whatever comes at us in this accursed place.
