At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane studies the pulsing runes with cold focus. The magic is layered—old spells reanimated by something recent. Fresh dark energy feeding decaying enchantments. This isn't ancient defense, it's reconstruction. We're dealing with whoever or whatever revived these guardians last night. Merrin, mark their movement patterns when they appear. Don't engage until we understand formation and timing. Seraphine—prepare a spell for area denial if they cluster too thickly at the doorway. Varikka, you and Halie hold center line ready to push forward on my signal. Her voice is steady, commanding. This isn't just mapping anymore. We're walking into someone's active ritual site. She touches the silver holy symbol at her throat, a gesture of warding rather than prayer—her faith is in controlled power, not divine intervention. The Time-Splitting Sword is probably deep within, likely protected by something more substantial than bone puppets. Let these skeletons commit to an attack before we waste bolts or spells on them.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I heft my mace, grip sticky from travel sweat. "This doesn't feel right—I can sense it in my bones. Something's feeding these old traps new magic." I back away a step toward the center line, putting space between myself and those cursed doors. "Merrin, keep close. Varrika—if we're doing this, let's do it smart. Start with a few test blows, see what wakes up inside before we commit to a full charge."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I keep my crossbow at the ready, scanning the shadows around the tower's base for any sign of movement. "Well, this is cheerful," I mutter under my breath. "Always wanted to be skewered by reanimated bones on my next adventure." My hands are steady on the weapon, but my stomach twists with apprehension. The ancient stonework looms before us, pulsing with an unsettling energy. It's clear this place is more than just a ruin—something dark and powerful slumbers here, feeding on decay. I edge closer to the tower door, my senses straining for any hint of threat.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand beside Varrika, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. The air here is thick with ancient magic, cloying and suffocating, a stark contrast to the crisp autumn chill outside the tower's walls. Every instinct screams at me to turn back, but we are too close now to retreat.
My eyes fixate on the ominous door before us, its surface covered in runes that seem to writhe and shift in the flickering torchlight. This isn't the decayed, forgotten enchantment I was expecting; it's a fresh, virulent spell, reanimating what should have long since crumbled to dust. The thought sends a chill through me that has nothing to do with the cool night air.
"I can feel it," I whisper, my voice so low it is almost lost to the wind. "The magic. It's alive."
I take a small step back, instinctively seeking distance from the pulsating energy. My hand tightens around the grip of my staff, a familiar weight that usually brings comfort now feeling woefully inadequate. Varrika's solid presence beside me is the only thing keeping me from bolting into the darkness.
My mind races, trying to piece together what this could mean. Ancient spells shouldn't have this kind of potency without being regularly fed. And yet, the tower itself seems to hum with a malevolent life, its very stones feeding some unknown power. The implications are terrifying—and deeply intriguing.
"We should be careful," I say, my tone firm despite the tremor in my voice. "This is no mere relic. It's been... awakened."
I turn my gaze to Jeane, seeing the same unease reflected in her eyes. She nods sharply, her own crossbow at the ready. We all know the risks of what we're about to do. But the lure of the legendary sword, of knowledge and power, is a potent drug.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever horrors lie ahead. Whatever dark magic this place holds, I will face it. I am Seraphine Vale, and I do not cower from what others deem forbidden.*

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I grip my heavy mace tighter, the rough wood biting into my scarred hands. The air is thick with the stench of decay and the hum of dark magic. Those ancient runes on the door are pulsing with fresh energy, like something's been feeding on them. "Keep your eyes peeled," I growl to the others. "Whatever's in there, it's not sleeping anymore."
