At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step forward toward the ominous door, my demonic heritage thrumming beneath my skin, crossbow raised and ready. Halie, Merrin—you two take point to either side of the door. Varrika and Seraphine, guard our flanks. I'll hold center position. The stone rune beneath my boot pulses again with fresh dark energy. Whatever animated these defenses last night was substantial magic. We need to map this place accurately before we proceed deeper. Merrin—when those skeletons show themselves, mark their positions and patterns of movement for us all. Seraphine, be ready with a spell to clear our path if necessary. The ancient runes on the door itself catch my eye, carvings shifting subtly. There's more magic at play here than just animated bones. Keep your wits sharp—this tower isn't just decaying, it's regenerating its defenses somehow.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I approach the ominous door cautiously, my heavy mace ready in one hand and crossbow in the other. The dark energy pulsing from beneath Jeane's boot sends a chill down my spine—this magic feels wrong, ancient and malevolent. I exchange a worried glance with Merrin, then look back at the tower entrance with growing unease. "We need to proceed with extreme caution," I say softly, but firmly. "Let's not rush into any unnecessary risks."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I edge closer to the tower door, eyes darting, crossbow at the ready. My heart's pounding like a drum in my ears. I mutter, "Well, this is cheerful. Always wanted to be skewered by reanimated bones on my next adventure."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel a chill trace a path down my spine as Jeane points out the pulsing runes beneath her boot. My eyes dart to the ancient carvings on the door, watching them shift subtly in the torchlight. It’s not just decay; this place is alive with dark magic, feeding on something we can’t see yet.
"I agree. This isn't mere rot. The energy feels... fresh,"
I mutter, my voice a low murmur that barely carries over the creaking of the tower stones. "Whatever animated these defenses wasn't some ancient enchantment. It's new."
My fingers tighten around the staff in my hand, its familiar weight a small comfort against the growing unease in my gut. I take a step closer to Varrika, seeking her solid presence in the face of this unknown threat. Merrin's nervous quip does little to quell the dread coiling inside me.
I turn to Seraphine, my expression grave.* "Varrika is right. We need to be ready for anything. And everything."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I step forward, my heavy mace gripped tight in my scarred hands. The ancient runes on this door are fresh with magic, dark and wrong. Whatever raised these defenses wasn't some dusty enchantment, it's new. We need to be ready for anything. Everything. I call out, "Merrin, mark their positions when they show themselves. Seraphine, have a spell at the ready to clear our path if need be. And keep those crossbows steady, Halie, Jeane. We don't know what's waiting for us in there."

The air is thick with tension as we stand before this accursed tower. But we've come too far to turn back now. The Time-Splitting Sword won't claim us so easily. Let those skeletons show themselves. We'll face them head on, just like we always have. My muscles tense, ready for battle. This is what we're here for. To retrieve the sword and face whatever dangers stand in our way. And I'll be damned if I let some undead horrors stop us now.
