Round 79 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
The air crackles with an unnatural energy as the ward pulses in time with our heartbeats. I can feel it in my bones, a hunger that wants to devour us whole. We need to move, to do something before it grows too strong. I turn to face my companions, my voice grave. "This ward, it's alive. And it's feeding on our fear." My gaze lingers on Halie, the cleric who's become like a sister to me. "Whatever we're going to do, we need to be smart about it."
My hand tightens around the haft of my mace, the weight of it a comfort in this strange and treacherous place. I step forward, positioning myself between Halie and the corridor. If something comes out of that darkness, it'll have to go through me first. "Jeane, Seraphine - we need your magic. Merrin, keep your hands off those runes unless you want to lose more than just a bit of skin." I meet each of their eyes in turn, my own hard and uncompromising. "Halie - document everything you can from here. If there's another way in, we need to find it."
The footsteps echo again, closer this time. Whatever's inside that tower, whatever holds this ward, it knows we're here now. And I have a feeling it's not going to let us leave easily. But we came for the Time-Splitting Sword, and by the gods, I'll see this through to the end. Even if it means facing down the darkness itself.
I feel it too—that raw hunger in the stones themselves. This ward isn't just magical, it's alive and starving for fear. We need distance and information before we stumble into whatever trap Merrin almost sprang with her iron fingers. Jeane waves everyone back from the threshold. Stay clear of the gate until I can sense its triggers properly. Merrin—sheathe those picks immediately unless you want to feed yourself to it piece by agonizing piece. Varrika, keep Halie behind you and Seraphine focused on mapping any side passages we might need. She closes her eyes, pressing a hand against one of the cooler stones near the gate's edge. The runes aren't symbols—they're mouths. And they haven't swallowed anything in centuries. That's not thirst, that's starvation. We have three options: try to disable it from outside and hope we don't alert whatever's inside; find a back entrance Halie can document while we provide perimeter security; or push through and risk everything on sheer magical firepower before it can fully activate its defenses. I say we move fast and smart. Merrin, scout the tower walls for hidden entrances—do it quietly with your eyes, not your tools. Seraphine, I need you to cast Detect Magic on a wide radius around this area, including the ground under our feet. Something doesn't feel right about those footsteps stopping. The ward's pulse quickens as Jeane probes its structure. Whatever's inside has gone quiet, and that's worse than hearing it move. We're running out of time to make an educated decision here.
The runes' hunger is unnatural—this ward feeds on presence and fear. Magic often leaves less-guarded passages for those who seek them. We need to find another way inside, explore around the tower's perimeter, look for alternative entrances before triggering something we can't handle at this gate.
