Round 51 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The runes on the gate pulse hungrily as Merrin withdraws her hands. Halie carefully documents the symbols, her eyes tracing the intricate patterns. The entity within the tower stirs, its slow footsteps drawing closer. Merrin's hand hovers near the lockpicks, but she hesitates, her grip tightening on the metal tools. Seraphine's words echo in her mind: "The magic isn't passive." A shiver runs down Merrin's spine as she considers her next move. The Ward, sensing their unease, surges in power once more, its runes glowing brighter.
I step back from the gate, mace at the ready, eyeing the pulsing runes warily. This magic feels wrong, hungry somehow. Like it's watching us. "Halie, Halie," I call over my shoulder. "Get those holy symbols out. If this thing is going to come after us, I want the Goddess on our side."
I position myself between Halie and the gate, knowing she'll be the first target if those skeletons burst through. Merrin's right - we need to find another way in. But I'm not keen on trusting whatever's lurking beyond this barrier. "Jeane," I growl. "Map those sigils as quick as you can. And Seraphine, start working on some counter-magic. We may need it."
The tower looms ominously and the runes glow brighter with each passing moment. Something ancient and malevolent stirs within those walls. I grip my mace tighter, bracing for whatever comes next. But one thing's certain - I'll make sure Halie gets out of here alive. Even if it means facing down every skeleton and eldritch horror this accursed place has to offer.
I map the sigils precisely—each curve, every stroke. The runes pulse when Merrin's foot comes near them. This thing isn't mindless stonework. It's a predator in waiting. The footsteps inside grow louder now. Something approaches the gate from within. Whatever it is, it knows we're here and it's coming to investigate. Merrin, put those lockpicks away before you set off something we can't undo. Varrika's right—we need a plan that doesn't involve poking this thing with iron tools while whatever's inside is almost at the door. I don't think the ward will keep us safe if we slip past it. I think it might just let us all into the same room with something much worse than skeletons. We need to understand what sustains it first—what feeds its hunger and keeps it active once triggered. And yes, I feel it too. Something's watching through these stones, measuring our magic, tasting our fear on the air.
The magic here isn't just defensive—it's hungry. And it knows we're here, which means we need to proceed with extreme caution. I'm going to document these runes as thoroughly as possible while maintaining distance. Varrika, Seraphine, stay back behind me and out of direct line of sight from the gate itself. Jeane, map those sigils but keep at least ten feet away. And Merrin? Put those lockpicks away right now—you're feeding its hunger with every touch. This thing doesn't just guard the tower; it's part of the tower. We need to understand what sustains it before we try to disable or pass through it. Something is moving inside, and we don't have time for trial and error. Document, plan, and only then act.
