The ward's magic pulses with dark energy as the party gathers at the tower entrance. Jeane feels the ancient power through her fingertips, a malevolent intelligence responding to her touch. Halie documents the runes cautiously, trying to read their ancient script while keeping his distance from the gate itself. Varrika shifts her grip on her mace, eyes fixed on the gate's surface. Merrin examines the lock mechanism with quick hands and alert dark eyes. Seraphine traces the patterns carefully, long elegant fingers following the symbols' curves.

The pulsing runes on the ancient gate send shivers down Halie's spine. This ain't no ordinary ward. Whatever's in that tower, it knows we're here now. We can't just rush in. (I document the runes carefully, trying to read their ancient script while keeping my distance from the gate itself.) This magic... it's old. Darker than any I've encountered before. The air feels heavy, wrong somehow—like breathing underwater...

I step closer to the ancient gate, fingers tracing the intricate patterns on its surface. The stone is cold beneath my touch, yet it thrums with an ominous energy. The runes carved into the heavy oak pulse with a low, ominous vibration, each symbol seeming to watch me as I approach. "The ward is no ordinary barrier," I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. "This magic... it's old. Darker than any I've encountered before. The air feels heavy, wrong somehow—like breathing underwater..."*

Varrika speaks up, her voice a low growl. The pulsing runes on the ancient gate send shivers down my spine. This ain't no ordinary ward. Whatever's in that tower, it knows we're here now. We need to decide our next move quickly. (The pulsing runes on the ancient gate send shivers down my spine. This ain't no ordinary ward. Whatever's inside knows we're here now.) Halie, keep your distance—let's document those runes first, make sure Merrin knows exactly what she's dealing with before she gets her tools anywhere near that magic.

Merrin steps back from the gate, hands raised in a gesture of non-aggression. The pulsing runes send a shiver down my spine, and I can't shake the feeling that whatever's in that tower, it knows we're here now. Jeane, put down those iron tools—any sudden metal on these stones could set off a cascade of defensive spells we won't survive.

Seraphine moves closer to examine a particularly complex section of runes, her fingers tracing the patterns carefully. The binding is... intricate. Layer upon layer of spells woven together. (The binding is... intricate. Layer upon layer of spells woven together.) I can feel the ancient power humming through the stone—this ward was constructed by someone with immense arcane knowledge.

Jeane casts a series of quick protective spells on herself and the group, her voice echoing with arcane power as she works. "We need to proceed with extreme caution. Whatever's inside, it clearly doesn't want visitors."

Halie speaks up, his hands raised in a gesture of divine protection. We should proceed with extreme caution. Whatever's inside this tower is powerful and ancient—slow footsteps approaching the gate confirm that something large is moving within. "We should proceed with extreme caution. Whatever's inside this tower is powerful and ancient—slow footsteps approaching the gate confirm that something large is moving within."

Varrika shifts her grip on her mace, eyes fixed on the gate's surface as she tracks the movement inside. "Alright, here's the plan. I'll go first—if there's any undead or traps waiting for us, I'd rather take the hits than let them get to the rest of you."

Merrin speaks quickly, her voice tight with tension. "Follow me—there's still a clear path out!"

The party begins moving toward the exit, Jeane maintaining an arcane barrier around the group while Varrika and Halie lead the way. The undead horde presses in from all sides now, skeletal figures and other entities closing the distance with unnatural speed. Varrika redoubles her efforts at the front of the group, each swing of her mace sending more bone fragments scattering across the chamber floor.

Halie unleashes another wide-area banishing spell behind them as they exit the chamber, divine energy washing over the pursuing undead horde and disintegrating several more Skeletons. The evaporated magical constructs billow like dark smoke before dissipating completely.

The party emerges into a narrow corridor just outside the main chamber, the entrance sealing itself with a loud grinding sound as it slams shut behind them. They stand there for a moment, panting and disheveled but alive, the echoes of their desperate escape still ringing in their ears.
