Phase: converging

The runes on the ancient gate pulse with malevolent energy as the party gathers at its base. Jeane, her demonic wings half-folded in a posture of controlled tension, extends a hand toward the stone surface. Arcane energy dances across her fingertips, and the symbols etched into the rock begin to shimmer with a weak but ominous blue glow.
Merrin, ever the scout, feels the magic like a physical presence—cold fingers walking up her spine. She takes an instinctive step back, her hand drifting away from the iron tools that might trigger hidden mechanisms. The runes' rhythm quickens in response to Jeane's probing spell, and a low hum fills the air, vibrating with dark intent.
Varrika, the stalwart dwarf warrior, shifts her grip on the heavy mace, ready for whatever may emerge. Her scarred face is etched with concern as she watches the gate's surface pulse with increasingly aggressive energy. "Careful there, Jeane," she rumbles. "Whatever's in that tower... it knows we're here now."
Jeane's crimson eyes narrow as she studies the arcane patterns. This isn't mere decoration—the magic binding these runes is ancient and malevolent, far older than any she's encountered before. The footsteps within have gone silent, but she feels a presence beyond the barrier, something vast and hungry that has stirred from its long slumber.
"Merrin, put down those tools," she warns, her voice tight with barely contained apprehension. "The iron could trigger whatever defenses this thing has left." She turns to Seraphine, her expression a mix of frustration and concern. "If you're going to cast anything... be very, very careful."
The tower looms overhead, its stone face weathered by centuries of wind and rain. The gate itself seems to sigh with age, the metal rusted in places, the wood warped but still holding firm against whatever lies beyond. The runes continue their ominous dance, casting flickering shadows across the party's faces as they prepare for what comes next.
Merrin sheathes her lockpicks with a soft click, her dark eyes darting between the gate and Jeane's tense form. "Right then," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. "Magic first before my delicate touch, eh? Can't say I'm surprised." She shoots Jeane a quick, nervous grin—half amusement, half challenge. "Just don't go setting off anything we can't handle, yeah?"
The air grows heavier, charged with the promise of violence and ancient magic. Whatever lies beyond this gate, whatever has been waiting in the depths of the tower for centuries... it's awake now. And it's hungry.
Jeane takes a deep breath, her voluptuous form tensing as she prepares to delve deeper into the arcane defenses. The runes pulse faster still, and a low groan echoes from within the stone—a sound like stone grinding against stone, or perhaps something far less geological moving in the darkness beyond.
"Wait," Jeane hisses, holding up a hand for silence. She closes her eyes, focusing her senses beyond the physical realm. There's a presence there, vast and ancient and wrong in a way that makes her stomach churn. It's not just watching—the thing beyond the gate is... tasting them. Testing their magic, their resolve, their very essence.
"Something's definitely in there," she says quietly, opening her eyes to meet Varrika's concerned gaze. "And it's not friendly."
