Round 3 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I extend my senses past the barrier, feeling the weight of centuries pressing against us. The magic here is old and hungry—it wants to consume everything we bring through that door. I don't like it. The runes aren't just locks; they're traps waiting to spring. Merrin, slow down. That mechanism might trigger something worse than what's inside. Seraphine, can you sense any gaps in the ward? If there's a way around this thing, we need to find it before we go stumbling into whatever ambush is waiting for us on the other side. Varrika has her mace ready—good instincts—but I want that crossbow loaded and aimed at eye level. We're dealing with skeletons here, not living targets. Head shots matter more than usual. And Halie, keep that holy symbol visible but close to your chest. We don't want to provoke anything before we're ready. The woods around us are too quiet. I can feel eyes watching from the shadows between the trees. This whole place is alive with malice—and whatever's inside that tower isn't the only thing hunting us out here.
I approach the gate carefully, holy symbol held ready, and try to sense what magic the runes are actually doing. The air grows heavier with each step closer—this feels wrong on a deep level. Merrin, be careful probing that mechanism. Varrika, if we need to fight our way through undead, I want your strength up front. The energy here is... hungry. Not alive exactly, but aware in some ancient way. I don't like this at all. Seraphine, if you're extending senses past the barrier, tell me what you feel—specifically what kind of magic we're dealing with. Is it just warding or are there active protections?
I approach the ancient gate, my heart pounding in my chest. The runes carved into the stone seem to shimmer with an ominous energy, warning me not to touch them. I feel the weight of Halie's gaze on my back as I crouch down to examine the lock mechanism. "There's got to be a way in," I mutter under my breath, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns etched into the metal. "If there's a lock, there's a key."
I can sense the dark magic pulsing beneath my touch, raising the hairs on the back of my neck. It feels like we're being watched, like the very walls are alive with malevolent intent. But I push those thoughts aside and focus on the task at hand. "Okay, let's see what we've got here," I say, my voice barely above a whisper as I start to pick at the lock with my trusty set of lockpicks. "If anyone hears anything, let me know."
The tension in the air is thick enough to cut with a knife as I work, the others standing guard around me. I know we're all thinking the same thing - that this is just the beginning, and whatever lies beyond this door is going to be far worse than anything we've faced before. But there's no turning back now. We've come too far, and the promise of the Time-Splitting Sword is too great a prize to give up on. So I take a deep breath and continue working the lock, my fingers moving with the practiced ease of long experience. "Almost...there," I mutter, feeling the tumblers start to align. "Just a little more..."
I stand before the ancient rune-covered gate, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns carved into its surface. The stone feels alive under my touch, pulsing with a dark energy that makes my skin crawl.
The runes aren't just for decoration—they're a barrier, a ward against intrusion. And yet, I sense something else too, a faint tremor deep within the rock itself, as if the tower itself is aware of our presence.
I look up at Jeane, her expression mirroring my own apprehension. "The magic here is old and potent," I say, my voice so low it's almost lost in the air. "It feels... hungry. As if it wants to consume everything we bring through that door."
My eyes flicker to Merrin, who is still working at the lock mechanism. "Be careful," I warn her, taking a step closer to the gate. "The runes aren't just locks—they're traps waiting to spring. We need to find a way around this ward before we try to force our way through it."
I step forward, mace in hand, positioning myself between Halie and the gate. The runes pulse like a heartbeat, sending a chill down my spine. "Easy there, rogue," I call out to Merrin. "Don't go poking anything you shouldn't."
I eye the ancient stonework suspiciously, every instinct screaming danger. The magic here is wrong - hungry in a way I've never felt before. It's like the tower itself is alive, watching us, waiting. "Cleric," I say to Halie, "keep that holy symbol ready. If we need to fight our way through, I want you covering our backs." She nods, her face set with determination even as apprehension etches her features. I glance at Jeane, the sorcerer. "If anyone can sense a way past this barrier, it's you. What do you see?"
My grip on the mace tightens as I prepare for whatever horrors might lurk beyond that gate. Whatever magic pulses within these walls, we'll face it head-on. But I pray to the gods that Merrin's lockpicks don't trigger something we can't handle. The air is thick with tension as we stand at the threshold of this accursed place. Each breath feels heavy, laden with the weight of ancient evil. But we've come too far to turn back now.
