The party stands before the ancient tower, its entrance sealed by a gate covered in ominous runes that pulse with dark magic. The air here feels thick and wrong, pressing against them like a living thing. Jeane steps forward first, her eyes gleaming with predatory interest as she traces one of the twisted symbols. "I can feel it," she murmurs, more to herself than anyone else. "Powerful dark magic—thick enough to cut with a blade." Her fingers leave faint trails in the air around the rune, and something shifts in the stone beneath her touch.

Halie moves to stand beside Jeane, her hand resting on the hilt of her mace. The cleric's face is set in a stern expression, blue-grey eyes scanning the runes with suspicion. "Those symbols aren't just decorative," she says quietly. "They pulse with dark energy—I can feel it resisting our presence." Her gaze flicks to Merrin as the halfling approaches the gate, then back to Jeane. She's not sure whether to trust the sorcerer's curiosity or be wary of her obvious interest in the tower's forbidden magic.

Merrin crouches before the gate, her nimble fingers tracing the edges and seams of the ancient stonework. As a rogue with extensive experience in lockbreaking, she can sense that there's more to this barrier than meets the eye. The runes themselves seem to shimmer with an ominous energy, and she swears she can feel a subtle vibration in the stone—a heartbeat, perhaps, or something deeper and more sinister. "There's more here than just a lock," she mutters, mostly to herself. "I need to examine this carefully before we try to force our way in."

Seraphine steps forward next, her elegant robes rustling softly as she moves. The elf scholar's sharp eyes gleam with academic curiosity as she examines the runes, her mind already working to decipher their meaning and purpose. This is what she lives for—to stand on the threshold of forbidden knowledge, to gaze upon ancient secrets that could reshape the very fabric of reality. But even her excitement can't entirely dispel the sense of wrongness that clings to this place like a shroud.

Varrika moves to the forefront, her heavy mace held ready in one powerful hand. As a seasoned fighter, she knows that the true danger often lies beyond the initial barrier—and whatever waits within this tower smells of death and decay. Her eyes scan the area around them, alert for any sign of movement or ambush. The runes' dark pulse makes her skin crawl, but she's not about to let fear stop her from doing what needs to be done.

The party stands poised on the edge of discovery, each member bringing their unique skills and perspectives to bear on the ancient riddle before them. The tower looms overhead like a sleeping giant, its secrets waiting just beyond the threshold—and whatever price they must pay to unlock those mysteries.
