The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The gate's surface glistens with an oily sheen under the fading light, runes pulsing like diseased veins. I step closer, ignoring the phantom caresses on my skin—the tower has tasted our presence and is eager for more. Elric's warnings echo in my mind, but his shifting eyes tell a different story. Fear isn't always truthful, especially when there's coin or secrets to be kept. "Elric," I say, my voice carrying the weight of authority I don't need to feign. "You speak of dangers as if we haven't faced them before. What do you know that the map doesn't tell us? What is this power you claim isn't for the faint of heart?"

My fingers hover above a rune, not quite touching. The air crackles with potential, and I can feel the magic pulsing beneath like a trapped heartbeat. Varrika watches me from the corner of her eye, her own hunger barely contained. We both know what kind of power lies within these walls—dark and delicious—and I won't pretend I don't crave it. But first, answers. Elric's silence speaks louder than any words could. He knows more than he's saying, and I need to peel back those layers before we step into whatever trap awaits us beyond this gate.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step closer to the gate, my silver holy symbol clutched in one hand as I trace its ancient markings with the other. "Elric," I say, my voice steady despite the dread pooling cold in my gut, "if what you say is true—if this tower holds such terrible power—then we need your knowledge more than ever." I look up at him, meeting his eyes directly. "Tell us everything. What are these runes? What locks the gate? And... what manner of creatures guard what lies beyond?"

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin stepped closer to the gate, her eyes narrowing as she studied the intricate runes etched into the weathered stone. She could feel the ancient power emanating from them, a tingling sensation that raced up her arms and sent shivers down her spine. "These aren't just for show," she muttered, her fingers hovering just above the symbols. "There's something special about these runes."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I lean over the intricate patterns etched into the ancient stone gate, my fingers tracing the complex runes with a feather-light touch. The air here is thick with magic, an almost physical presence that prickles against my skin like static electricity. This isn't just another set of carvings meant to frighten trespassers - these are the key to the puzzle lock sealing the tower entrance. I can feel it in my bones.
My eyes dart between the different symbols, piecing together their meaning. Each one seems to represent a specific element or school of magic. Fire, water, earth, air... and something else entirely. An unknown power, darker than the others. Elric's warning echoes in my mind, but I push it aside. Knowledge is my currency, and this gate holds secrets I need to unravel.
I glance back at Merrin, who is also studying the runes with intense focus. "Merrin, do you see what I mean? These aren't just decorative. They're part of the locking mechanism." My voice is a low murmur, meant only for her ears.
The others are engaged in their own conversations, debating whether to press forward or heed the old man's advice. But all I can think about are these damnable runes and the power they hold. Whatever lies behind this gate, it will be unlike anything we've faced before. And if there's a chance the Time-Splitting Sword can save our village, then we have no choice but to proceed.
I take a step back, looking at the whole pattern with fresh eyes. The solution is there, hidden in plain sight. All we need to do is figure out the right combination. "I think... yes, I'm certain now. This is a puzzle lock." My mind races, trying to fit the pieces together.
I look around at my companions, each lost in their own thoughts. We've come too far to turn back now. The Whispering Woods have already claimed one of our own. And if we fail here, more will follow. This is our burden to bear, our path to walk.
With a deep breath, I turn back to the gate. My hands hover over the runes, ready to make the first selection. Whatever magic this place holds, whatever horrors await us inside... we'll face it together. For the village. For each other.
I meet Merrin's gaze one last time before reaching out, my fingers connecting with the cold stone of the gate. "Let's see what this tower has in store for us."
