Phase: converging

The gate loomed before them, an ancient barrier of iron and stone covered in pulsing runes that seemed to feed on the moonlight. The air around them felt heavy and wrong, thick with the stench of decay and old magic. Jeane stepped forward, her crimson eyes narrowed as she studied the ominous barrier. She traced the ancient symbols with a fingertip, feeling their cold power pulse against her skin.
Elric's warnings echoed in her mind—was he genuinely concerned for their safety or simply afraid to face whatever horrors lurked within these walls? The thought sent an unfamiliar chill down her spine as she glanced at Varrika, noting the barely contained hunger in the demoness's eyes directed towards the tower entrance. Halie moved to stand beside her, gripping her heavy mace with white-knuckled determination. The young cleric's silver holy symbol caught what little moonlight filtered through the canopy above, gleaming like a tiny star against her chest.
"We cannot turn back now," she said, her voice steady despite the fear that gripped her heart. "The Time-Splitting Sword is too important to abandon our quest." She turned to Elric, her blue-grey eyes searching his face. "Tell us everything you know about this place. What manner of creatures guard what lies beyond? And how do we open this gate?"
Merrin moved closer, her rogue's instincts on high alert as she examined the runes with a practiced eye. Something felt... off about these markings. They weren't just for decoration or to ward off casual trespassers—they served a purpose, a function that went beyond mere deterrence. She could feel it in her bones: this gate was protected by more than mere locks and bars.
Seraphine joined them, her sharp elven eyes already working to decipher the ancient symbols. The magic here was palpable, thick enough to taste in the air. But there was something else too—an undercurrent of dark power that made her skin crawl. She needed to understand these runes before they attempted to open the gate. The consequences of stumbling blindly into a magical trap could be... catastrophic.
The group stood there for a long moment, tension thick between them as they contemplated their next move. The tower loomed above, its secrets hidden within the darkness beyond the iron gates. Would they have the courage to face whatever lay ahead? Or would fear and uncertainty force them to turn back before they even began?
Jeane's gaze remained fixed on Elric, her expression unreadable as she waited for his response. The old man shifted uncomfortably under her scrutiny, sweat beading on his brow despite the cool night air. What was he hiding? And more importantly—could they trust him enough to follow his lead into whatever horrors awaited them inside?
The decision hung heavy in the air, unspoken but understood by all present. They had come too far to turn back now—but at what cost would their curiosity be satisfied? Only time would tell...
