Round 91 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin frees Halie's arm, a chunk of rubble from above crashes to the ground, sending dust and debris swirling around her. The sound echoes through the tower, making it difficult for the group to hear each other's voices. Halie cries out, her voice hoarse from being trapped. The air is heavy with malevolent energy, and the ancient runes etched into the stonework seem to pulse ominously in response to Merrin's movements. The ground shudders slightly beneath their feet as the structural instability intensifies, making it harder to maintain their balance. In the darkness, a faint glow emanates from the far end of the passage, illuminating the edge of the rubble that Halie is trapped under.
I approach the wall carefully, my wings tucked close, and pass my palm over the ancient stonework. The pulsing energy from those sigils feels wrong—demonic in its rhythm, corrupting even to touch. We need to proceed with extreme caution or find another route entirely. Merrin's scraped knee is minor compared to what awaits us if we stumble into a trap fueled by this malevolent power. Seraphine, can you detect any structural weaknesses that might give way to hidden passages? Varrika and Merrin should prepare to defend us against whatever horrors might be drawn by our presence here. Halie, focus on tending your injury for now—we need you in fighting shape when we face the true threats. The last thing we want is a festering wound slowing us down later. I'll examine this new corridor more closely; there might be ancient wards or protective sigils hidden beneath the corruption that could offer some defense against whatever lies ahead. Stay alert, everyone—this tower isn't just falling apart physically.
Merrin's brow furrows in concentration as she strains to make out any sounds coming from Halie through the rubble. She looks to Varikka, hoping the dwarf has better luck hearing their friend. "Can you hear anything? Is she..." Merrin's voice trails off, unable to finish the thought. She shakes her head, trying to clear the fear that threatens to overwhelm her. "Never mind. We've got to get her out of there."
With a grunt of effort, Merrin heaves another heavy stone aside. The rough edge scrapes against her injured knee, sending a bolt of pain up her leg. She ignores it, focusing instead on the feel of cool air on her hands as she digs through the rubble. "Careful," Seraphine warns, eyeing the flickering runes on the wall. "We don't want to disturb anything else."
Merrin nods, though she's not sure how much more careful she can be with Halie trapped under the rocks. She works swiftly but gingerly, listening for any sign of her friend. The air grows thick with tension as the party works to free Halie. Merrin's hands are slick with sweat and grime, but she doesn't let up. She will not stop until Halie is safe. As they work, Merrin can't shake the feeling that something else lurks in the darkness of the tower. She keeps glancing over her shoulder, half-expecting to see some horror emerge from the shadows. But for now, all is quiet.
I stand motionless amidst the chaos, my keen elven eyes scanning the crumbling tower walls as if they hold the secrets to our survival. The air itself feels heavy with malevolence, a thick, choking presence that seems to press in on us from every shadowed corner.
My gaze is drawn to the faintly glowing runes etched into the stonework, their ancient script pulsing with an ominous rhythm that makes my skin crawl. It’s a language of power, but not the kind we seek. This is something far darker, something that whispers of the darkest arts and the twisted desires of beings long forgotten by mortal men.
I feel a sudden, sharp pang of fear as I watch Merrin struggle with the rubble trapping Halie. The thought of losing another member of our party to the capricious cruelty of this place chills me to the bone. We came here for the Time-Splitting Sword, but now all that seems to matter is simply getting out alive.
I turn to Varrika, her battle-worn presence a small comfort in the oppressive atmosphere. "We cannot stay here," I say, my voice a low murmur that’s almost lost in the settling dust. "The energy from those runes... it feels like it's seeping into my very bones. We must find another way up, or risk being overwhelmed by whatever dark forces this tower holds."
My eyes flick back to the runes, then to Merrin and Halie. A sense of urgency tightens within me. "Merrin," I call out, my tone sharp with command, "leave Halie for now. You're injured, and we need everyone functional if we hope to escape this place."
