As Merrin steps into the shadows, a faint glow emanates from deeper within the passage, casting an eerie light on the ancient runes that writhe and twist in the flickering flames. Suddenly, the air is filled with a cacophony of whispers, each one a different voice, but all speaking a single, chilling phrase: "You should not be here."

The ground beneath Merrin's feet begins to shudder, and the walls start to crack, sending jagged pieces of stone tumbling down. Halie's muffled cries for help grow louder as the rubble shifts, making it harder for Merrin to reach her. Varrika's hand on Merrin's arm is firm, but it's clear that even their combined strength won't be enough to hold back the structural instability. The passage is collapsing around them, and the only way forward is to move quickly...

Halie

Halie · Cleric

The air tastes wrong—like iron and decay—and every rune in this corridor is screaming at me not to touch them. But Merrin's hurt knee needs tending before infection sets in here. And Varrika's right—I don't like being underground with something this foul breathing on us.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I step back from the crumbling archway, my keen elven eyes scanning the pulsing runes etched into the stone. The air here is thick with an ancient malevolence, a palpable force that seems to press against my skin like a physical weight.
The sound of shifting rubble and Merrin’s muffled exclamation of pain reach my ears from deeper within the passage. My heart clenches. Halie is trapped, injured, and the energy emanating from these sigils feels like it could strip the very sanity from our minds if we linger too long.
I turn to Varrika, my expression grave. "We must act quickly. The corruption here is far greater than Elric warned us about. These runes... they're not just old magic. They're alive."
My gaze flicks back to the passage, where Merrin's silhouette can be seen struggling against the shadows. I take a deep breath, the scent of damp stone and something far more unsettling filling my lungs.
"I need to get closer, to study the runes directly. But Merrin... she needs help now." I look at Varrika, seeking her counsel in this dire moment. The weight of our mission hangs heavy, a tangible thing that threatens to crush us all under its oppressive burden.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I recognize this reek instantly—the unmistakable stench of demonic taint clinging to those ancient runes like spiritual filth. These sigils pulse with malevolent energy, and whatever foul magic festers in that corridor, it's not something we should trifle with lightly. Merrin, I don't care what you heard about glory or treasure—get yourself out of there now before the corruption seeps any deeper into your mind. Varrika is right: this place feels wrong down to its very foundation stones. Halie trapped beneath rubble? That changes things significantly. We need an alternative route—there must be another way up without passing through that spiritually poisoned hall. Seraphine, can you sense any other magical pathways or hidden passages in the stonework? We're running low on healing supplies as it is, and I won't risk my entire coven to some demon's lair disguised as an ancient tower. If we proceed with caution—and wisdom—perhaps there's a less... spiritually toxic path to the upper levels. I'll prepare counter-spells against potential demonic presence while Merrin retrieves herself and Halie tends to her knee injury. We stick together from now on—the further we descend, the more this place feels like it's breathing with malice, and I won't lose any of my sisters to some forgotten evil's ambition. Move forward cautiously along the outer wall—let's see if there are any structural weaknesses or hidden entrances before we resort to triggering more of those foul runes. And someone keep an eye on our supplies; I don't want us caught unprepared when things inevitably go from bad to demon-haunted.
