As Seraphine turns back to face the others, the air seems to shift, and the malevolent energy emanating from the pulsing sigils intensifies. The wooden floor creaks ominously, and Halie's careful descent causes a section of the landing beneath her to give way, sending her tumbling down a narrow, winding staircase. The sound echoes through the corridor, followed by the faint scraping of wood against stone. The stairs lead down into darkness, the air growing colder and more oppressive with each step. Suddenly, a faint whispering begins, the words indistinguishable but the malevolent intent clear. A section of the wall nearest the stairs slides open, revealing a narrow, dimly lit passage. The whispering grows louder, and a cold breeze stirs the dust motes dancing in the faint torchlight. The group stands frozen, unsure whether to follow the stairs or investigate the newly revealed passage.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I eye the ominous passage warily, hand tightening on my crossbow. The air reeks of wrongness, of power best left undisturbed. But we've come too far to turn back now. "Alright, let's see where this leads," I mutter, "but keep your wits about you. Something tells me we ain't alone in here." With a deep breath, I step into the darkness, senses straining for any hint of danger. The shadows seem to whisper and shift at my approach, as if the very stone is alive with malice. I force myself to take another step, then another, into the unknown.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I eye the pulsing sigils warily, the malevolent energy they emanate raising the hairs on the back of my neck. We've come too far to turn back now, but I know better than to let my guard down in a place like this. "Merrin, hold up," I call out, stepping forward to block her path with an upraised hand. "That passage could be booby-trapped for all we know. Better to stick together and take the stairs."

I turn to face the others, my voice grim but resolute. "Stay alert. Keep your weapons close. And whatever you do, don't touch those damned runes. They reek of sorcery that's best left alone."

With that, I shoulder past Merrin and start down the crumbling staircase, each step sending a shudder through the ancient stone. The air grows thick with the stench of decay, and an ominous whispering echoes from the shadows. But I don't let it rattle me. I've faced worse in my years as a soldier. And I'll be damned if I let some long-dead mage's tricks get the better of us now. We came for that sword, and by the gods, we're taking it home - even if we have to claw our way through hell itself to get there.
