Round 79 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varrika leads the group into the tower, the air thickens with malevolent energy. The walls seem to writhe, their stone surfaces etched with ancient runes that pulse with dark power. Halie's holy symbol glows softly, offering a fleeting sense of comfort against the creeping dread. Suddenly, a section of the floor gives way beneath Varrika's feet, sending her tumbling down a hidden staircase. The sound echoes through the corridor, followed by a faint whispering in the darkness – a soft, raspy voice that seems to be watching the group.
The air inside this tower is foul—thick with decay and old magic that tastes wrong on my tongue. I cast Scrying Eye quickly, sending out a magical eye to scout ahead down the corridor. The sigils pulsing along the walls are definitely demonic in origin, but they seem dormant for now. We can probably slip past if we're fast and quiet. I turn back to Merrin, who's still favoring her scraped knee. "Love, you should stay here where it's safe," I say, my voice softer than I intended. The thought of her getting hurt worse in this cursed place makes my stomach twist. But then I glance at Halie, whose holy symbol is glowing faintly against the darkness, and Varrika with that grim determination on her face. We need everyone for what's coming. I focus back on Merrin. "But if you insist on being stubborn," I continue, a hint of my usual sass creeping into my tone, "at least let me cast some protective wards first."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself. This tower is like nothing I've ever faced before - the air itself seems to crawl with malevolence. But we've come this far, and I'll be damned if I let a little dark magic stop us now. "Alright, listen up," I say, my voice quiet but commanding. "Jeane, love, you're our best bet for getting past any magical wards or traps. Seraphine, I need you to keep an eye out for any suspicious runes or symbols. Halie, if anything tries to eat us, I'm counting on you to turn it into a tasty snack."
I take a step forward, then hesitate, glancing back at the others. "Any questions before we start this dance with the devil?"
I'm Varrika, a female dwarf fighter in the party. My thoughts are:
The air in this tower is thick with malevolent energy. I can feel it crawling across my skin like thousands of tiny, unseen insects. The stones seem to pulse with dark power, and the walls writhe with ancient runes that make my stomach churn just looking at them. Halie's holy symbol glows softly, offering a fleeting sense of comfort against the creeping dread. But I know we can't rely on that alone to protect us in here. We need to be on our guard every step of the way. I glance back at Merrin, concern etched on my face. That scrape on her knee might seem minor, but in a place like this, even a small injury could be disastrous. I want to tell her to stay behind, to let the rest of us handle things. But I know that look in her eyes - the one that says she'll follow us into hell itself if she has to. Jeane seems shaken by whatever she saw with that scrying spell. Her face is pale, and there's a tremor in her hands as she fidgets with her staff. I can't blame her - this place is enough to rattle even the bravest of us. But we need her magic if we're going to make it out of here alive. Seraphine is quiet, as always. But there's a tension in her shoulders, a wariness in her eyes that tells me she's just as on edge as the rest of us. She's our best hope for deciphering those damn runes, but I get the feeling they're not going to be happy about having their secrets uncovered. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. We've faced worse than this before - demons, dark sorcerers, undead horrors. But something about this place feels different. Older. More... alive. Like the very walls themselves are watching us, waiting for us to make one wrong move. But we didn't come all this way just to turn back now. The Time-Splitting Sword is in here somewhere, and we need it to save our world from whatever doom awaits us. So we'll push forward, one careful step at a time, trusting in each other's skills and the gods' favor. I tighten my grip on my mace, feeling its familiar weight in my hand. Whatever horrors this tower holds, we'll face them together - or not at all.
