Phase: converging

The tower's embrace was cold and unwelcoming, its very stones seeming to pulse with malevolent intent. Varrika found herself at the forefront as they stepped inside, her heavy mace gripped tightly in hands calloused from decades of combat. The air grew thick almost immediately, cloying with the stench of decay and old magic that made her nose wrinkle in distaste.
"Something's not right here," she growled, her gravelly voice barely above a whisper. The walls seemed to writhe before her eyes, ancient runes etched deep into the stone pulsing with a sickly green light that cast everything in an eerie glow. Each breath felt heavy, leaden with the weight of dark power that pressed in from all sides.
Jeane moved forward, her crimson eyes narrowed as she focused on the corridor ahead. The tall succubus woman extended her hand, and a small orb of shimmering energy coalesced above her palm—a magical scout sent to probe the darkness beyond. The air around them crackled with arcane energy as the spell took shape, her expression growing more grim by the second.
"Demonic sigils," she hissed, her voice tight with apprehension. "Powerful ones, and relatively fresh. We need to be careful here." She turned back to Merrin, her voluptuous form silhouetted against the pulsing green light from the walls. "Love, you should stay here where it's safe," Jeane said, her usual confidence replaced by a rare note of genuine concern. The thought of losing Merrin in this place—of any of them falling to whatever horrors lurked within—made her stomach twist with dread.
Merrin, ever the pragmatist, simply nodded. "We've come too far to turn back now," she replied, her dark eyes scanning the corridor ahead. The wiry halfling woman shifted her weight, the heavy pack of supplies and equipment settling against her back with a soft clink of metal. Her injured knee throbbed, a constant reminder of their precarious situation, but she pushed the pain aside.
"Alright, listen up," Merrin said, her voice low and commanding despite the tension that gripped her shoulders. "Jeane, love, you're our best bet for getting past any magical wards or traps." She turned to Seraphine, her expression serious. "Keep an eye out for any suspicious runes or symbols—if something looks wrong, shout it out immediately."
The tower seemed to hold its breath around them, the silence broken only by the distant drip of water and the faint, maddening sound of... something... whispering in the darkness ahead. Varrika tightened her grip on her mace, her scarred face set in a grim mask of determination.
"We move forward," she declared, her voice a harsh rumble that seemed to shake the very stones around them. "Stay close, stay alert, and for the love of all that's good—don't touch anything." The group nodded in unison, their faces etched with apprehension but their resolve unwavering. Together, they stepped deeper into the embrace of the crumbling stone tower, each step echoing with the weight of centuries of darkness and forgotten horrors.
