Phase: converging

Seraphine descends the crumbling stone steps with careful precision, her keen eyes scanning every surface for signs of structural weakness or hidden traps. The air grows heavier with each step downward, thick with an oppressive energy that makes her skin crawl and her breath catch in her throat. She can feel it pressing down on her, a palpable weight that seems to resist their intrusion into this ancient place.
She reaches the bottom and turns to face the others, her expression grave. This tower... it's alive, in a way no natural structure should be. The stones themselves pulse with dark magic, and I can hear them creaking and groaning as if in pain. She gestures to the walls around them, where faint sigils seem to writhe just at the edge of visibility. We need to proceed with extreme caution. Whatever sleeps here, it's not resting peacefully.
Jeane descends next, her wings tucked close against her back, eyes narrowed against the oppressive atmosphere. I feel it too, this wrongness clawing at my senses. The magic here is... tainted. Demonic in nature, but older than any demon I've encountered. She moves to stand beside Halie, placing a hand on the cleric's shoulder in silent support. Halie, what do your spiritual senses tell you? Is this simply corruption, or something more... sentient?
Halie completes her ministrations on Merrin's knee with practiced efficiency, her expression troubled. The corruption is deep here. I can feel it seeping into the stone itself like poison in veins. She stands, brushing dust from her knees, and meets Jeane's gaze with a grim expression. My senses scream warning. This entire tower is a... a wound in reality. Something tried to force its way through here long ago, and the scar has festered over time.
Seraphine nods gravely at Halie's words. A breach in the natural order. That explains the instability and the pervasive corruption. We need to find another way up—this corridor is too dangerous. She pulls out her spellbook, flipping through the pages with quick fingers. I might be able to stabilize the structure temporarily, but we can't stay here long.
Jeane's crimson eyes scan the corridor ahead, her wings twitching with barely contained unease. Agreed. But first—she raises her voice slightly—Varrika! We need your sharp eyes on this perimeter sweep. Seraphine and I will map what we can from here while Halie... She trails off, looking to the cleric for guidance.
Halie meets Jeane's gaze steadily. I'll walk the walls, see if there's any way to bypass this corruption-saturated corridor. But be warned—disturbing such powerful magic without proper preparation could have... consequences. She moves away, her hands tracing along the stone surfaces with reverent caution, leaving a faint trail of holy energy in her wake.
Seraphine begins casting her stabilization spell, the air around her hands shimmering with arcane power that fights against the oppressive darkness. Hold still, everyone. This might feel... strange.
The tower groans around them as Seraphine's magic takes hold, the stones creaking less violently and the air seeming to thin just a fraction. There. That should buy us some time, but we need to move quickly. The corruption is fighting against my spell already.
Jeane nods approvingly at Seraphine's work before turning her attention back to the corridor ahead. Right. Varrika, take point on that perimeter sweep—we need to know what else this tower holds besides this... She gestures vaguely at the pulsating sigils. ...whatever this is. Halie, keep us updated on any spiritual anomalies you encounter. And Merrin—she fixes the warrior with a stern look—no heroics. We're here for the sword, not to poke ancient evils with a stick.
Merrin has the grace to look slightly abashed but nods nonetheless. Understood. I'll keep my blade sheathed unless absolutely necessary.
As the group begins to split into their assigned tasks, the air grows heavier once more, the tower's malevolent heartbeat thrumming louder in their ears—a warning or an invitation, it's hard to tell which.
The descent continues, each step echoing ominously in the oppressive silence. The walls pulse faintly with a malevolent rhythm, shadows seeming to writhe unnaturally in the corners of their vision.
