The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Seraphine · Wizard

The air here feels thicker than water, each breath a struggle against some unseen resistance. It clings to my lungs, tasting of ancient dust and something far worse—decay, perhaps, or a deep-seated malice that permeates every crumbling stone. I feel it most keenly around the runes on the walls, their pulsing energy a physical weight pressing down upon my skin.
I pull my heavy robes tighter around myself, the fabric doing little to ward off the chill that seems to seep from the very bones of this place. My fingers trace the intricate pattern on my staff, a familiar ritual to center myself amidst such chaos. The key at my belt feels like an anchor, a promise of power held in check.
The sound of Varrika’s voice cuts through the oppressive silence like a blade, sharp and commanding. She is right, of course. We cannot stand here forever, frozen by fear. And yet, every instinct screams at me to turn back, to flee this tomb before it claims us all. I meet Halie's gaze across the room, seeing in her eyes the same warring emotions reflected within my own heart.
She offers me a small, reassuring smile before turning to Varrika, her voice steady despite the tremor I know she must feel. "I'll be ready," she says, her hand resting on the hilt of her mace. It is a gesture of solidarity, a silent pact between us all. We came here seeking power, but now, faced with its raw, unfiltered form, I wonder if we were truly prepared for what it might cost.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the journey ahead. The key feels heavy against my thigh, a physical reminder of the burden we carry. As Varrika moves towards the hidden door, I follow, my steps echoing softly in the vast chamber. Each one is a step further from the world above and into the unknown depths of this cursed tower. And yet, there is no other path forward.

I can feel it too—the wrongness of this place clinging like cobwebs. These aren't just old walls; something fed here, long and dark. Varrika, wait. Let me check the sigils first. We don't need to stumble into a hallway that's actively summoning demons. Halie? I need your eyes. Can you sense any spiritual pathways around this corridor that aren't tainted?

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's eyes dart between the pulsing runes and the hidden doorway, her mind racing. She takes a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "Alright, let's see what we're dealing with here," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. Crouching down, Merrin examines the door frame, running her fingers along the edges. Her keen eyes search for any sign of traps or mechanisms. The air feels heavy with ancient magic and malice. A chill runs down her spine as she thinks about what might be waiting on the other side of those pulsing runes. "Halie, can you sense any other ways up?" Merrin asks, her voice hushed. "I'd rather not stumble into whatever's behind this door blind."

She straightens up, dusting off her hands. Her eyes meet Varrika's. "Careful now," she warns, a wry smile tugging at the corners of her mouth despite the fear gnawing at her insides. "Let's not go rushing in like a bunch of fools. We've got to be smart about this."

Merrin takes a step back, her hand resting on the hilt of her crossbow. She nods towards the hidden doorway. "After you, then. But stay sharp. I've got a feeling we're about to walk into a world of trouble."
