Round 46 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I draw in a sharp breath as the ancient runes pulse against my skin, a cold fire that seems to trace the lines of my veins. My heart hammers in my chest, a frantic bird trapped in a cage of bone. The air here is thick with an ancient magic that feels more like a living thing, coiling around us all.
"The runes... they're not just carved," I say, my voice so quiet it's nearly lost in the oppressive silence of the corridor. "They're breathing."
My gaze travels over the faces of my companions, seeing the same unease reflected back at me. Halie’s holy symbol feels suddenly heavy against my chest, a reminder of the forces we’re meddling with.
"I know we need to push on," my words are steady but laced with an undercurrent of dread. "But this... this isn't right. The energy here is too much. Too hungry."
I take a small step back from the wall, my hand instinctively moving to the hilt of my staff, a comforting weight at my side. The thought of climbing those unstable stairs, of delving deeper into whatever dark power lies at the heart of this place, makes my stomach churn.
"We should find another way," I say, more firmly this time. "There has to be an alternative route. Something less... direct."
I meet Varrika's eyes, seeing the practical calculation there, and feel a surge of both relief and fear. She is our leader, but her strength in battle feels like it might be no match for the kind of sorcery that can warp stone itself.*
I can feel it too, this wrongness in the stones. The corridor doesn't just breathe darkness—it's been holding its breath waiting for us. We need to find another way up. I'm not risking us all on stairs that feed whatever lies beneath. The energy here is too much. Too hungry. We move along the wall, careful of our steps. Let Halie walk point—I trust her judgment when it comes to spiritual dangers. Varrika and Seraphine in the center, Merrin guarding our backs. I'll take the lead in searching for gaps or hidden passages. We're looking for an upstairs draft carrying cleaner magic—older magic—but we need to move fast before this tower realizes we're here. The air itself feels like a mouth waiting to close around us.
The stones themselves feel wrong—pulsing with a hunger that has nothing to do with life. I don't like this. We're not ready for whatever this tower wants to feed us to.
