The stones themselves seemed to pulse with a sickening, rhythmic energy, and the walls were covered in sigils that writhed when looked at directly—a sure sign of powerful demonic magic at work. Her fingers itched for her crossbow, but she knew better than to rush into unknown darkness without more information.
Varrika moved forward cautiously, her heavy mace held ready in her hands. The air here felt wrong—heavy with a malevolent energy that seemed to seep into her very bones. The walls were covered in strange symbols that pulsed with an eerie light, and the shadows seemed to writhe and shift as if alive. She...
Halie stepped closer to Merrin, her hand resting on the hilt of her mace. "Wait," she said softly. "Something's not right here. The air feels... wrong. Like reality itself is bruised." Her blue-grey eyes scanned the pulsing sigils on the walls, a frown furrowing her brow. "Those thorns weren't natural either. And what's making those sounds?" She shook her head. "We're not ready to rush blindly into a puzzle chamber we can barely see. Let's wait, listen, and watch for patterns before we commit ourselves fully to whatever's waiting inside."
Jeane floated closer, her dark leathery wings half-spread in readiness. "I feel it too—this place is wrong," she said, her crimson eyes narrowing as she studied the writhing sigils. "The air tastes of decay and old magic gone rotten." She gestured to the pulsing stonework. "Those sigils? I've seen their kind before in forbidden tomes. Something ancient and hungry sleeps below us." Her voluptuous form tensed, wings coiling tighter. "We should find Elric again. He might know a safer route around this section—before night fully sets in and whatever makes those scuttling sounds grows bolder. I'm not risking all our necks for some magical blade, no matter how powerful it's supposed to be."
Merrin hesitated, torn between her curiosity about what lay ahead and the wisdom of Jeane's words. The succubus had faced demonic forces before—her instincts were worth heeding. But they'd come so far... She turned to face the others, a determined look on her face despite the fear churning in her stomach. "Alright," she said slowly, "but we can't just turn back now. Not when we're this close." Her quick eyes scanned the corridor again, searching for any sign of a safer path.
