The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I approach the corridor cautiously, my wings tucked close to my back for now. The breathing symbols on the walls pulse with dark energy—this isn't natural magic at work here. Something ancient and malevolent has taken up residence in these stones. Halie's right, this place feels wrong down to the bone. Merrin, wait. Let me cast Detect Magic again, more thoroughly this time. We need to know what we're dealing with before we stumble into a trap—or worse. If there's active dark magic in that corridor, especially demonic influence, it changes everything. We might need to find an alternate route or prepare different spells—Banishment instead of Fireball, for instance. Give me a moment. The air here is thick with the scent of decay and something else... old power. I don't like it. But we came here for a reason, didn't we? So let's be smart about this. [I crouch and begin drawing arcane symbols on the ground, muttering incantations—]

This should give us a better read on what kind of magic is active in there. Hold your positions while I work.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I peer into the hidden corridor, my sharp elven eyes straining against the darkness that seems to cling to the stone walls like a living thing. The air itself feels thick and heavy, pressing down on us all, making each breath an effort. I can feel a faint but insistent pulse of dark energy coming from the breathing symbols carved into the walls, their patterns shifting and rearranging themselves with a unsettling purpose.
My mind races, trying to catalogue the possible magics at play. This is no ordinary dungeon trap. There's something deeper here, something ancient and malevolent that has seeped into the very bones of this place. "The symbols," I say, my voice so low it’s almost inaudible, yet it carries clearly in the oppressive silence. "They're not just for show. They're part of a complex ward. A containment spell, perhaps."
I take a cautious step forward, my robes whispering against the floor. Every instinct screams at me to turn back, to flee this suffocating atmosphere, but we've come too far. Knowledge calls to me like a siren song. "We must proceed with extreme care. Whatever lies ahead, it is not going to be simple. Or safe." My gaze flickers to the staircase descending into shadows, then back to the group. "Varrika, Jeane, Halie... I suggest we form a plan before taking another step. This is no longer just a dungeon; it's a labyrinth of dark magic."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika grips her mace tighter, the weight of the weapon a familiar comfort in her calloused hands. She steps closer to the hidden corridor, peering into the darkness with narrowed eyes. The air feels thick and oppressive, like it's pressing down on her from all sides. The whispers are louder here, a constant susurrus that grates against her nerves. "I don't like this," she mutters, more to herself than to the others. "Something's not right."

She can feel the hairs on the back of her neck standing up, a primal warning that something is very wrong. But they have come too far to turn back now. The Time-Splitting Sword is their only hope. "Jeane," she calls over her shoulder, "cast your spell. Let's see what we're dealing with here."

She takes another step forward, her boots scraping against the stone floor. The darkness seems to part before her, revealing a narrow corridor that disappears into even deeper shadows. She can see the breathing symbols on the walls, pulsing with an otherworldly energy. "Keep your eyes peeled," she warns the others. "And stay close. We don't know what's waiting for us down there."

With a deep breath, she takes another step forward, her mace at the ready. The whispers grow louder, a chorus of unseen voices that seem to beckon her forward. She swallows hard and presses on, her heart pounding in her chest. This is what she was made for. To stand between danger and those she swore to protect. And she will not fail them now, no matter what horrors lurk in the depths of this accursed tower.
