The air inside the tower felt wrong from the moment they stepped through the crumbling outer wall—heavy, thick, resisting their passage like walking through water. Halie paused at the threshold, her cleric's instincts screaming warnings that had nothing to do with her physical senses. This wasn't natural decay or simple age; something fundamental was off here, like time itself was bleeding through the stones.

"Wait," she said softly, one hand coming up in a staying gesture. "There's... something wrong with this place." Her eyes scanned the gloomy interior, lingering on the pulsing runes that seemed to glow brighter as they watched. The very shadows felt alive, hungry somehow. She took a half-step back, her grip tightening on the silver cross at her neck.

"Talk about a welcoming committee," Varrika muttered from behind her, her voice barely carrying over the oppressive silence. The dwarf woman's hand tightened on her mace, knuckles whitening. "I don't like this one bit."

Jeane moved forward with predatory grace, her wings half-spread for balance as she assessed the space. Her succubus senses were screaming warnings—this wasn't just residual magic or lingering death. Something ancient and powerful had marked this place, and whatever it was, it wasn't friendly.

"This isn't natural decay," she said, voice low and serious. "These wards are... alive somehow." She glanced back at Halie and Varrika, her crimson eyes gleaming in the dim light. "We need to proceed with extreme caution."

The corridor ahead stretched deeper into the tower's heart, the air growing colder and heavier with each step. The stones themselves seemed to pulse with dark energy, and the very shadows clung to them like grasping fingers. Whatever lay ahead, it was certain to be dangerous—and likely already aware of their presence.
