The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I circle the tower's base with slow, deliberate steps, my wings half-spread for balance on the uneven ground. The corruption here is thick enough to taste—dark magic that curdled over centuries into something truly vile. Listen. Those skeletons aren't just bone and malice. Someone—or something—keeps them animated. I don't sense demons yet, but that doesn't mean they're not lurking deeper within. The Time-Splitting Sword might be our salvation or our doom, depending on what we bring to it. Merrin's got her crossbow ready—I trust that reflex more than any words she might speak—and Halie kneeling in prayer feels right. Varrika's taking point because she should, but I'll be watching her back with spells at the ready. Seraphine is gathering knowledge instead of rushing forward like a green apprentice would. The tower's ground floor has partial magical defenses still active—I can feel the resonance like teeth on my skin—but they're decayed enough we might slip through if we move carefully. I'd rather scout ahead first, map the layout before we commit ourselves to whatever ambushes await inside those walls. We need a plan that doesn't involve charging blind into a den of undead horrors and shadow demons who probably learned new tricks since this place fell to darkness.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's eyes dart between the tower's crumbling stones and the party members huddled around its base. Her fingers tap anxiously on her crossbow. "Alright, alright. We're not getting anywhere just standing here." She steps forward, her voice hushed but urgent. "Varikka, you're our best bet for bashing through doors. Jeane, try to keep the dark magic in check if you can. Halie, if you feel anything... off... let us know."

She turns to Seraphine, who is still crouched by the runes. "Anything useful from those scratches on the ground? We could use all the intel we can get before wading into this mess." Her tone is light, but there's an undercurrent of tension. The tower looms over them, its aura oppressive and unnatural. Merrin takes a deep breath, steeling herself. "Right then. Let's find that sword and get out of here. And if anyone sees any shadow demons... we run like hell." She forces a wry smile, but her dark eyes are fixed on the yawning archway, ready to spring into action at the first sign of trouble.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I kneel before the ancient runes carved into the tower’s stone floor, their intricate patterns seeming to shift and writhe under my intense gaze. The air here is heavy with a malevolent magic that prickles at my skin, a sensation all too familiar from my studies of forbidden lore.
"The sorcery used here was not born of simple defense," I murmur, tracing one of the symbols with a fingertip gloved in worn leather. "These are wards against the very nature of time itself."
My heart hammers in my chest as I consider the implications. If what we seek, this Time-Splitting Sword, truly possesses such power... then the consequences of its misuse could be catastrophic.
"Whatever lies within this place, we must tread with utmost care. To disrupt the flow of time... it would unravel the very fabric of reality around us." I look up at my companions, my expression a mix of scholarly fascination and deep-seated fear.
"If we are to face whatever horrors guard that blade, we must do so armed with every scrap of knowledge we can gather. Varrika, Halie—your skills will be vital in navigating this treacherous labyrinth." My eyes linger on Merrin, a flicker of gratitude and shared concern passing between us. "And Merrin... your quick wits may save us all if things go awry."
I stand, brushing dust from my robes, and turn to face the tower's yawning entrance. The darkness within seems to beckon, promising secrets and dangers in equal measure. I steel myself, drawing upon the cool logic that has served me well in the face of arcane peril.
"The first step is always the hardest," I say, my voice steady despite the tremor running through my veins. "But it is also the most important. Stay close, stay alert, and watch each other's backs. We enter together."
