Round 2 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Seraphine's incantation crackles through the air as she begins to cast a shield spell, her eyes locked on Jeane with a mixture of caution and curiosity. The words of the incantation dance upon her lips, and the air around her seems to shimmer as the magic takes hold. However, the spell's activation is interrupted by a faint creaking sound echoing from within the tower's depths. The ground beneath the party begins to shudder, and the sound of scuttling, skeletal feet grows louder. A trio of skeletons, their bony frames adorned with tattered remnants of armor, stumble into view from the tower's entrance. The undead creatures are drawn to the party's presence, their empty sockets fixed upon Jeane with an unblinking hunger. The skeletons' gaze is accompanied by a wave of noxious energy that threatens to destabilize Seraphine's shield spell. The magic begins to falter, and the air around the wizard starts to ripple with dark energy.
I circle the crumbling walls of this accursed tower, my wings tucked close as I trace patterns in the ancient stonework with a fingertip. The magic here is thick and wrong—dark sorcery layered upon dark sorcery for centuries until it has seeped into the very bedrock like poison in soil. This place stinks of death and desperation. Can't you all feel it? This wasn't just a fortress; this was an alchemical laboratory where they performed abominations that curdled the blood even of demons like me. The air is heavy with things better left undisturbed, but our quest demands we enter anyway. Merrin, keep your crossbow ready and your wits about you. Varrika, stay close to Halie—her blessings may be our only shield against what lurks within these walls. Seraphine, prepare a fire spell; I want something that can scour away whatever filth clings to this place. I'll take the lead since my constitution is stronger than most of yours. We go in quiet and fast—no grand entrances or dramatic pronouncements. Let's find the Time-Splitting Sword before whatever horrors guard it realize we're here.
I take a moment to center myself, fingers tracing the silver cross at my neck as I gaze up at the crumbling structure before us. The air here feels heavy with something ancient and wrong—an oppression that settles like dust on every surface inside me. "Jeane," I say, voice measured but firm, "I feel it too. Whatever was done here... it left residue." I turn to face the group, my gaze moving from Merrin's alert stance to Varrika's hand resting on her mace, and finally to Seraphine with her brow furrowed in concentration. "We must proceed carefully. My blessings may indeed offer some protection against whatever spiritual corruption lingers within these walls." I reach for one of the waterskins, take a small sip, then square my shoulders. "But make no mistake—I am not a shield to be deployed alone. We face this together, or we do not face it at all."
Merrin's eyes dart to the tower entrance, crossbow at the ready. The skeletons' clattering footsteps send a chill down her spine. She presses close to Jeane, voice barely audible. "Not a lot of options here, is there? We're committed now." Her gaze flicks to the map, then back to the looming archway. "Let's get in and find that sword before these boneheads get too excited."
I feel the heavy weight of the tower's presence settle onto my shoulders as we stand before its crumbling entrance, a suffocating aura of ancient magic pressing in from all sides. The air itself seems to crackle with a malevolent energy, a dark whispering that chills me to the bone. It reminds me too much of the forbidden tomes I've studied, each line a whisper of terrible secrets and the terrible costs of wielding such power.
"The raw power here is not unlike the forbidden tomes I've studied," I murmur, my voice almost lost in the oppressive silence. My eyes dart around the group, searching for any sign of shared unease.* "Each line was a whisper of ancient secrets and terrible costs."
Varrika's eyes narrow as she watches the skeletons emerge from the tower entrance. She grips her mace tighter, muscles tensing in anticipation of combat. "Hrmph. Just as I suspected - no good can come from a place like this," she grumbles, her voice a low rumble. "Stay sharp, everyone. These bones may look fragile, but there's dark magic animating them."
She steps forward to shield the party members from the oncoming undead horde. "Jeane, Merrin - keep your distance and let these things come to us. Halie, Seraphine, be ready with any holy blessings or spells you can muster. We'll need all the advantage we can get in here."
Varrika's gaze darts around the entrance, searching for any traps or further threats. The shadows seem to writhe and twist at the edges of her vision, making her squint. "This ain't natural. Whatever sorcery they used to bind those demons... it's left a foul taint on this place," she mutters darkly. "But we've come too far to turn back now. Stay close, stay alert, and watch each other's backs. The Time-Splitting Sword waits for us at the heart of this tower, and by Moradin's hammer, we'll retrieve it if it's the last thing we do."
With a deep breath, Varrika readies her mace and steps forward to meet the first of the skeletal warriors, her boots crunching on the gravel. The party's quest for the legendary blade has led them to this point - now only their steel, spells, and wits will determine if they emerge victorious or as just another set of bones to haunt these halls.
