Round 16 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As the party steps further into the dark hallway, the skeletal warrior's bony frame materializes before them. Its empty sockets lock onto Jeane, and it takes a step forward, its arm outstretched. The air seems to thicken with malevolent energy, making every breath feel like a struggle. The Devourer's presence remains an ominous undercurrent, drawing the party deeper into the tower's depths. The ward's trigger points glow with an eerie blue light, casting flickering shadows on the walls. Varrika's grip on her mace tightens as she scans their surroundings, while Merrin readies her crossbow, eyes darting towards Jeane. Halie holds up a hand, palms outwards, as if to ward off the darkness. The skeletal warrior lunges forward, its bony fist aiming straight for Jeane's chest.
The air inside the tower feels like sinking into cold water—dense, wrong, heavy with a pressure that wants to push back. The ward's trigger points are scattered across the floor stones in a pattern I don't recognize, glowing faintly blue under my mace tip when I trace them carefully. These aren't defensive runes anymore—they're something else, something that woke up when we stepped through and summoned... whatever that skeleton was. It's not just undead magic, either. There's an older pulse behind it, deeper in the tower where the real threat is probably waiting. We need to map these triggers, figure out how to move without activating more guardians or worse things—probably takes my attention for a few minutes while I track the pattern across the floor. Varrika and Merrin can keep eyes on the doorways and shadows while Halie keeps her blessed hands ready in case something tries to slip past. I don't like being this exposed in an enemy stronghold, but we need to know what we're walking into before we stumble blindly into a graveyard party.
I keep my crossbow at the ready, scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. My eyes dart from corner to corner, alert for any hint of undead or worse lurking in the darkness. I edge forward cautiously, making sure to avoid brushing against any of those profane runes. "Stay sharp, everyone," I call out, trying to keep my voice steady despite the unease churning in my gut. "Wrong magic is never a good sign. If something feels off, we pull back and reassess."
I move to flank Jeane, providing cover while she works on mapping those damn wards. The air feels thick and oppressive, like it's pressing down on us from all sides. I can practically feel the ancient power thrumming beneath the stone, waiting to lash out if we step wrong. "Hey Jeane," I call out, trying to keep my tone light despite the fear clawing at my throat. "When you're done with that ward business, let me see it, yeah? Might be able to make sense of the pattern."
I keep my senses on high alert, ready to react at the first sign of danger. This place feels like a tomb waiting to wake up, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't half-expecting a horde of undead to come boiling out of the shadows at any moment. But we've come this far. Might as well see what other horrors this accursed tower has in store for us. Just have to hope our luck holds out a little longer...
The heavy mace feels solid in my grip as I step through the threshold, the dark hallway stretching before us. My eyes strain to pierce the gloom, but even with the torchlight it's hard to see more than a few steps ahead. The air feels... wrong. Not natural, not right. Magic, but twisted somehow. "Keep your wits about you," I warn the others, my voice low and gravelly. "Stick close and stay sharp. No splitting up in here."
I move up beside Jeane, my silver cross held forward as a ward. "The magic here is wrong—profane, ancient, hungry." I keep my eyes moving across the shadows where the torchlight doesn't quite reach. "Merrin, I know you want to study those runes, but touching them might trigger worse things than a single skeleton." To Varrika: "We need to clear each room before moving on, not just charge through." I touch the ward stone gingerly with my fingertips, feeling the corruption pulse against my skin. "Jeane's right—something big is sleeping deeper in, and we don't want to wake it until we're ready."
