Round 14 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance now ajar with a dark, musty hallway stretching into the depths within, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I approach the runes carefully, my sorcerous senses extended like ghostly fingers probing the stonework. The magic radiating from them feels twisted—wrong in ways even my corrupted sensibilities can barely comprehend. It pulses with an ancient hunger, a dark intent that makes my wings prickle and my skin crawl. I sketch quickly, charcoal scratching against parchment, trying to capture the patterns before they shift or change. "The air inside shimmers with dark energy," I murmur to Merrin, who's examining them alongside me. "And I hear it—the whispers, always the damned whispers." They speak of an ancient evil, of a 'Devourer' that awaits us within. What do you want from us, you dusty old bones? I think, my lips curling into something that isn't quite a smile. I finish the sketch and roll up the parchment carefully. "Merrin—stop thinking about those damn runes for now." The ward's already triggered, and we've got a skeletal warrior to deal with before it summons more company. I draw my heavy mace, its head gleaming darkly in the torchlight. Time to clear the doorway and map the first chamber properly. I gesture for Halie to ready her blessings of protection, just in case the corruption seeps through our defenses. Then I step into the darkness beyond the threshold, my wings half-spread for balance as I descend into the tower's depths. The stone underfoot is slick with something that isn't quite dust—some sort of oily residue that makes my boots slide a little. "Stay close," I call back to the others, my voice echoing strangely in the narrow corridor. "The walls have eyes here—I can feel it."
I study the ominous runes etched into the stone archway, my halfling eyes narrowing as I try to make sense of their arcane patterns. The air feels thick with wrongness, and the whispers grow louder, scratching at the edges of my mind like nails on a chalkboard. I shiver, despite the warmth of the torchlight. "Wrong magic is never a good sign," I mutter, mostly to myself. "If something feels off, we pull back and reassess." I glance over at Jeane, who's sketching the runes with quick, confident strokes. "Hey, Jeane - when you're done with that, let me see it, yeah? Might be able to make sense of these twisted patterns."
I turn to Halie, my voice softening with concern. "Halie, love - you still think you can purify these wards without triggering them? I don't like the feel of this at all." My hands twitch, itching for the comfort of my lockpicks and crowbar, but I know we need to proceed carefully. "Alright, listen up," I say, turning to address the whole party. "We stick together in there. No heroics, no splitting up. We've got a job to do, but not at the cost of our hides." I rap my knuckles against the stone, the sound echoing ominously in the still air. "Let's see what secrets this tower holds, shall we? But keep your wits about you - I have a feeling we're not alone in here."
With that, I take a deep breath and step into the darkness beyond the archway, my senses on high alert for any sign of danger. The air feels heavy, oppressive, as if the very walls are watching our every move. But we've come too far to turn back now. Time to see what this tower's got in store for us, one step at a time.
I step forward, my boots crunching softly on the dirt path outside the tower's yawning maw. The air inside shimmers with an oppressive, almost tangible weight. It feels like walking into a tomb, one that has been sealed for centuries and is now belching out its ancient decay. The whispers are louder here, a constant susurrus at the edge of my hearing, promising secrets and horrors in equal measure.
I pull my heavy cloak tighter around myself, more for comfort than warmth. The silver holy symbol of the Goddess of Light feels cool against my skin, a small bastion of familiar power in this alien place. My eyes dart to the others, their faces grim but determined in the dim light spilling from the open door.
"More wards," I murmur, my voice so low it's almost lost in the air. The runes carved into the stone archway are complex, far more intricate than anything we've encountered so far. They pulse with an inner light, a sickly blue hue that makes my stomach twist. "This magic... it feels wrong. Corrupted."
I turn to Merrin, who is already crouched down by the threshold, studying the patterns with an intensity that borders on obsession. She looks up at me, her eyes wide and bright in the gloom.
"Merrin," *my tone is sharp, a warning. "We don't have time for you to get lost in those runes again. We need to move, and we need to be cautious."
