Round 13 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance now ajar with a dark, musty hallway stretching into the depths within, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I step back from the threshold of the tower, my eyes fixed on the pulsating blue light emanating from within. The air itself seems to hum with an ancient, malevolent energy, a feeling so foreign and wrong it chills me to the bone. My mind races, trying to decipher the complex runes etched into the stone frame, but their meaning remains just out of reach.
The whispers grow louder now, a cacophony of disembodied voices that seem to swirl around us like a physical force. They speak of an ancient evil, something that predates even the oldest histories I know, and of a 'Devourer' whose arrival these wards were designed to herald. A cold dread settles in my gut as I realize the true scale of what we have stumbled into.
"My friends," I say, my voice strained with a calm I do not feel, "this is more dangerous than anything we've faced before. The magic here... it's wrong. Twisted. We must tread very carefully if we hope to survive this place."
I turn to Merrin, who still stands at the edge of the darkness, her gaze locked onto the runes with a disturbing intensity. A flicker of worry crosses my face as I see the reckless spark in her eyes.
"Merrin," I call out, trying to keep my tone level and authoritative, "whatever you're thinking, stop. We cannot afford to trigger any more wards without understanding them first."
My gaze sweeps over the others—Varrika, Jeane, Halie—each one a pillar of strength in our little group. But even they seem shaken by this place. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. My hand instinctively moves to the pouch at my belt, where the few scrolls of protective magic I carry feel woefully inadequate.
"We need to document everything we can about these wards and the layout of this first level. Jeane, if you could sketch what you see of the runes... Halie, please prepare some blessings of protection for us all. And Varrika," I meet her eyes directly, "your sword arm may be tested soon. Be ready."
With a final, lingering look at the swirling darkness of the tower entrance, I turn my back on it. For now, we must prepare ourselves, for what lies ahead will demand every ounce of our skill, courage, and wits.
I approach the tower entrance cautiously, my crimson eyes scanning every detail of the ancient stonework. The magic radiating from those runes feels twisted—wrong in ways even my corrupted sensibilities can barely comprehend. Whatever power fuels this place predates anything we've encountered so far in these accursed woods. The air inside shimmers with dark energy, and I hear it—the whispers, always the damned whispers. They speak of an ancient evil slumbering within, something they call 'the Devourer.' We need to proceed carefully, stick together, and avoid triggering whatever wards Halie sensed. Merrin—stop thinking about those damn runes for now. I draw my heavy mace, the cold iron a comforting weight in my grip. The corridor stretches into darkness, narrow enough that we'll have to move single file once inside. I don't like it one bit—too many choke points for ambushes, too little space to maneuver if things go sideways. We should mark our path as we go, leave signs only we can recognize. And someone needs to keep track of which wards we've triggered and which remain inactive. I'll take point—their undead guardians are less likely to resist a succubus' charms than they would a human woman's. Unless the necromancy here is truly ancient and immune to my wiles. But first, let's check those whispers again. What exactly do they want?
I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves as I study the ancient runes etched into the stone doorway. The air feels heavy with an ominous energy, and the whispers seem to grow louder with each passing moment. I know we need to be careful here - one wrong move could trigger something we're not prepared for. "Alright, let's see what we're dealing with," I mutter under my breath, drawing closer to examine the wards more carefully. My fingers itch to trace the symbols, to test their responsiveness, but I hold myself back. We need to be smart about this. I glance over at Halie, noting the tension in her posture as she tries to sense the magic with her divine gifts. "Anything?" I ask quietly. She shakes her head, brow furrowed. "It's... wrong. Twisted somehow. I can't quite put my finger on it."
I nod slowly, unease coiling in my gut. Wrong magic is never a good sign. "Okay, let's take this one step at a time. Jeane, can you sketch those runes for me? I want to know exactly what we're dealing with here."
The sorcerer nods, her eyes darting between the wards and the shadows beyond. "On it," she murmurs, already reaching for her notebook. I turn to Varrika, noting the grim set of her jaw. "We stick together in there," I say firmly. "No heroics, no splitting up. If something feels off, we pull back and reassess."
The fighter meets my gaze, a flicker of respect in her eyes. "Agreed," she says gruffly. "But if those wards start acting up, we're out of there fast. No arguing."
I flash a quick grin, trying to ease some of the tension. "Wouldn't dream of it," I promise. Taking one last deep breath, I step forward, my hand hovering just above the runes. The air crackles with energy, and I can practically feel the wrongness of it seeping into my skin. But we have no choice. We need to enter this accursed tower, to find that sword and end this madness. "Alright," I say softly, more to myself than anyone else. "Let's see what horrors await us in the darkness."
