The chamber's oppressive silence deepens as the party descends the stairs with agonizing caution. The central rune's pulsing slows to a predatory rhythm, its hungry light painting their faces in sickly shades of power and decay. Jeane marks the trap's edge meticulously—each step forward bought with careful calculation and mounting dread.

Halie moves to Varrika's side, her hand hovering uncertainly, torn between offering comfort and maintaining distance from the spreading corruption. The cleric's voice trembles as she urges haste, even as her eyes betray her own terror at what lies ahead in the tower's cursed depths.

Varrika forces herself upright despite the poison's burning grip, her dwarf's stubborn nature flaring defiantly against the encroaching darkness. She glares at the rune with fierce determination, knowing full well the price of failure but unwilling to abandon Merrin to whatever fate awaits below. The mace in her hand becomes an extension of that iron will, a symbol of the party's unbreakable resolve despite the tower's malevolent attempts to shatter it.

The air grows thicker with each step downward, ancient magic and fresh death mingling in a noxious perfume that clings to their skin and coats their tongues. The stones themselves seem to groan under the weight of centuries-old hatred, the very structure of the place alive with malice that predates even the most ancient of them. Yet still they move forward, driven by duty and desperation, knowing full well that retreat offers no salvation from the curse that clings to Merrin like a second skin.

The stairs creak ominously beneath their careful feet, each board a potential trap waiting to spring. Dust motes swirl in the sickly green light, dancing macabre patterns that suggest faces and warnings in the gloom. And all the while, the pool's surface remains eerily still, reflecting not their true selves but twisted parodies of humanity—warped by the tower's influence, teetering on the edge of damnation.

But there is no turning back now. The quest demands their forward momentum, and Merrin's fate hangs in the balance. So they press onward into the darkness, hearts pounding with fear and resolve intertwined, each step carrying them deeper into the belly of the beast that is this accursed tower.
