As Varrika descends the stairs, the air grows thick with an unnatural silence. The heavy mace at her side feels heavier, as if the weight of the tower's malevolent energy is pressing down on her shoulders. She warns the party to stay sharp, her voice barely above a whisper, as the silence is oppressive. Suddenly, the stairs creak beneath her feet, and she stumbles, catching herself on the railing. The wooden slats give way, sending Varrika plummeting down the remaining stairs, her mace flying from her grasp. She lands hard on the stone floor, the sound echoing through the chamber like a death knell. The party's eyes widen in alarm as they peer over the railing, their hearts racing with fear and anticipation. What horrors await them below?

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I can feel it now—something massive and old stirring in the depths below us. The magic in these walls isn't just residual; it's hungry. This whole tower is a mouth waiting to close. We don't need the sword bad enough to feed ourselves to this place, do we?

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I won't let this place take anyone else. We need that sword, but not at Merrin's price. Varrika, can you steady yourself? The air feels wrong here—something ancient and hungry. Jeane's right. We can't feed ourselves to whatever's in these walls. Let me bless the area first. Just in case. She raises her silver holy symbol, beginning a silent prayer for purification.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika stumbles on the narrow stairs, losing her grip on the mace. She lands hard on the cold stone, the impact jarring through her bones. Her hands scrape against rough-hewn steps as she steadies herself. "Careful now," Varrika grunts, pushing to her feet. "This cursed place is eager to see us fall."

She reaches for the mace, but it clatters out of reach, tumbling down into the shadows below. Varrika's fingers curl in frustration, but she doesn't dare lunge for it. "Halie," she calls up the stairs, voice echoing in the tight space. "Keep that symbol of yours ready. We'll need every bit of divine protection this tower has to offer."

Her gaze darts to Jeane, concern etched on her weathered face. "And you, wizard. Watch for any traps. I don't trust this magic one bit."

Varrika's hand falls to the crossbow at her hip, ready to draw it in a heartbeat. She takes a deep breath, steeling herself against the oppressive weight of the tower bearing down on them. "Onward," she mutters, more to herself than the others. "Whatever horrors await, we'll face them together."
