Round 75 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Halie's silver holy symbol wavers, the air around Merrin shimmers with a faint, otherworldly glow, and her convulsions slow to a stop. The central rune pulses brighter still, as if drawn to the cleric's presence. A sickening, sweet scent wafts from the runes, making Jeane's eyes water. Halie's voice is laced with desperation as she urges Varrika to stop, but it's too late - the momentary reprieve has passed, and the tower's malevolent energy surges forward, forcing the party into a new, treacherous tunnel that stretches downward like a dark, winding snake.
I feel every nerve ending screaming at me to turn back—that oppressive magic is crawling under my skin like living corruption—but we're so close. The Time-Splitting Sword has to be below us, somewhere in those cursed depths. If Merrin dies... no. She won't die. Can't die. Not after everything she's already survived. I won't let her sacrifice mean nothing. But this—this staircase feels wrong on a fundamental level. The air itself seems to resist our presence here. Halie's right, of course. Her instincts are usually sharp enough even if her courage is... selective. We should scout ahead with magic rather than blindly descending into obvious death-traps. But the longer we linger at the edge, the stronger that pulsing central rune grows—it's reacting to us just by standing here. I can feel something ancient and hungry stirring in response to our presence. Probably a trap, definitely not friendly. We need to act with extreme caution or we'll all end up like Merrin did, consumed from within by whatever cursed energy is seeping out of the walls themselves.
Halie stood by Merrin's still form, the silver holy symbol in her hand trembling slightly as she held it aloft. The air around them both shimmered with an unnatural energy, and every instinct screamed at her to run. "Varrika," she said, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her insides, "We can't go down there. Not yet. Merrin needs more time—needs help I can't give here." She looked up at their leader, seeing the fierce determination warring with exhaustion in those dark eyes. "We've pushed too far already," Halie continued, her tone measured and convinced of the truth she spoke. "Let me try to stabilize Merrin's condition first. Maybe if we can slow the progression—"
The central rune pulsed again, its sickly green light seeming to reach out like grasping fingers. Halie swallowed hard but stood firm. "Or at least understand what's happening," she finished softly. "Because right now, I don't have answers, and that scares me more than any trap or monster."
She met Varrika's gaze evenly, knowing her words wouldn't be what the fighter wanted to hear. But someone had to voice the doubts, to offer a different path. "Let me work with Merrin," Halie offered again. "Give us an hour—a few hours if I can manage it. If nothing changes for the better... then we take the stairs and hope whatever's down there can end this faster than the curse itself."
I feel the weight of the mace in my scarred hands, the familiar grip a comfort as I take a step down into the shadowed depths. The air is thick with magic, oppressive and choking, but there's no going back now. Halie's warning rings in my ears, a desperate plea to turn back before it's too late. But Merrin's fate hangs in the balance, her curse spreading like a cancer through our party. We've come too far to retreat. I cast a glance over my shoulder at Jeane and Halie. "Stay sharp," I growl. "Keep your wits about you. Whatever lies waiting below, we face it together."
My gaze lingers on Halie, her silver holy symbol clutched tight in white-knuckled fingers. She's the only thing keeping this cursed magic at bay. If she falters, we're all undone. Taking a deep breath, I descend another step into the unknown, mace at the ready. The green glow of the central rune pulses against my skin like a fever dream, but I push forward, one foot after the other. Merrin's fate and the weight of the Time-Splitting Sword rest on our shoulders. We can only pray to the gods that whatever lies ahead is not beyond even my hardened resolve to withstand.
