As Merrin cautiously steps into the revealed passage, the air pressure fluctuations caused by her touching the pulsing green rune grow more intense, and the flickering torches cast eerie shadows on the walls. The distant sound of crumbling stone grows louder, and the whispering sounds in the distance seem to be drawing closer. Suddenly, a faint, sickly green glow emanates from the walls, illuminating ancient carvings that depict a long-forgotten civilization's downfall. The carvings appear to be a warning, but their meaning is lost on the party as they continue forward, unsure what to make of the ominous symbols. A loud crack echoes through the passage, and the ground beneath your feet shudders ominously, causing you to stumble. Your torches flicker wildly, casting the space in an eerie, otherworldly light. Halie's eyes widen in alarm as she tries to steady herself on the wall, but it's too late – she feels herself being pulled towards the glowing carvings, her holy symbol cold and unresponsive against her skin.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch Merrin take those first tentative steps into the revealed passage, her mace clutched white-knuckled in her hands. The air around her shimmers with an ancient power, and I feel a thrill of fear mixed with exhilaration. This is what we came for, after all—a forgotten magic that could change everything. But as the ground shudders beneath our feet and the distant sound of crumbling stone grows louder, my heart hammers against my ribs.
My eyes dart to the warning symbols etched into the walls of the passage. They’re old, older than any writing I know, yet their meaning is clear: danger lies ahead. And Halie’s holy symbol... it feels cold and unresponsive now, a chilling confirmation that something unholy has taken hold here.
I take a deep breath, my gaze fixed on Merrin’s retreating back. Every instinct screams at me to turn around, to flee this place before it swallows us whole. And yet, I can’t. The lure of knowledge, of power, is too strong. It calls to something deep inside me, an echo of the hunger I see in Jeane’s eyes every time she talks about her arcane studies.
I step forward, my own heavy mace a comforting weight in my hand. "Stay sharp, everyone," Merrin had warned, and those words ring like a bell in my head. This is no time for carelessness or arrogance. We must tread carefully, and we must trust each other.
"I'm right behind you," I call out to Merrin, my voice steady despite the tremor running through me. My mind is already racing ahead, trying to decipher those runes, to find some way to neutralize whatever curse or trap awaits us in the depths of this accursed tower.*

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The air inside this cursed tunnel thickens with ancient death magic, and I can feel it clawing at my insides like talons on raw flesh. The pulsing rune beneath Merrin's boots has bled its sickly green light across the walls now—carvings there that look less like warnings and more like invitations to some unholy ceremony. I raise a hand, arcane symbols flickering along my palm as I test for traps or wards. The magic responds with a nasty feedback jolt that tastes like rusted iron and regret. "Whatever triggered when Merrin touched it," I say, voice tight, "is now fully active." Whatever was sleeping down here isn't asleep anymore. My wings twitch involuntarily—I can feel the wrongness in this place pressing against my scales like too-tight leather. The Time-Splitting Sword might be at the end of this passage, but so might our graves if we proceed carelessly. We're all already cursed just for breathing this air—Halie's holy symbol going cold is proof enough of that. I step forward, boots scraping against stone worn smooth by centuries of whatever horrors passed through here before us. "Merrin—stay close and keep that mace ready." My voice echoes strangely in the narrowing corridor. "And if you see anything that looks like an exit or a way out, point it out immediately because I'm half-convinced this passage just leads straight down into whatever hell spawned these carvings."

The flickering torchlight makes shadows dance across walls covered in symbols that seem to writhe when I look directly at them. I squint, trying to read the damned things—they look like instructions or maybe prayers to something older than the gods themselves. Either way, nothing good comes from worshipping whatever left these marks. I glance back at Halie and Merrin, their faces barely visible in the green gloom. "If anyone starts feeling... off... speak up." Because I can already feel it—the curse trying to take root inside me like a parasite seeking warm flesh to nest in. My own magic is fighting against it, but even my power has limits when facing something this ancient and this hungry. The distant sound of crumbling stone grows louder with each step we take forward into the tunnel's throat. Whatever lies ahead, whatever cursed sword we're meant to find—or fail to claim—it won't be waiting patiently for us anymore. This place knows we're here now. And it wants something from us before it lets us leave. I reach out, fingers brushing against Merrin's shoulder—a brief contact, barely a confirmation that she's still solid and real in this shifting nightmare of a corridor. "Whatever happens next," I mutter more to myself than to her, "don't trust anything that promises easy answers down here."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I grip my mace tightly as I step cautiously into the revealed passage, my eyes straining to pierce the shadows. The air feels thick and oppressive, like a suffocating blanket pressing down on us. Distant crumbling sounds echo through the tunnel, growing louder with each passing moment. "Stay sharp, everyone," I mutter, my voice barely above a whisper. "We've no idea what horrors might be lurking in the depths of this cursed place."

As I take another tentative step forward, the ground beneath my boots shudders violently. A green glow begins to emanate from strange carvings etched into the walls, their ominous symbols seeming to writhe and dance before my eyes. Halie's holy symbol, normally a warm comfort, feels cold and unresponsive against my skin. It seems even the goddess of light is powerless against the malevolent energy that permeates this accursed tower. I exchange a worried glance with Jeane, who nods grimly in understanding. We both know the stakes are higher than ever before. One wrong move could spell our doom. But we press on regardless, driven by a mix of desperation and reckless courage. With each step deeper into the passage, the air grows heavier and more oppressive. The ground continues to shudder and shift beneath our feet, as if the very foundations of reality are crumbling away. And yet, in the midst of this madness, a small part of me feels a thrill of excitement. It's the same wild rush I've felt countless times before, when facing impossible odds with nothing but my wits and a bit of luck to keep me alive. So I tighten my grip on my mace and forge ahead into the darkness, determined to unravel the secrets of this cursed place—no matter the cost.
