Round 49 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin investigates the glowing symbols etched into the walls, the hissing grows louder, echoing off the stone walls. The air rushes in, threatening to extinguish her torches. She stumbles forward, nearly losing her footing on the slick stone floor. The concentration of glowing symbols seems to pulse in time with the increasing pressure, casting an eerie glow across Merrin's face. Suddenly, a section of the wall shudders and slides open, revealing a narrow, dimly lit chamber beyond. A faint whisper of air escapes, carrying the scent of ozone and something else - a metallic tang that makes Merrin's skin prickle. The central rune's sickly green light seems to be drawing her towards the opening, as if beckoning her into the unknown. Halie's voice cuts through the tension, "Merrin, are you sure you want to go in there? We can't be sure what's waiting for us."
I watch as Merrin moves closer to the glowing runes on the wall, her curiosity getting the better of her caution. The hissing noise grows louder, an ominous sound echoing off the stone, and I see Halie's expression tighten with concern. My own heart quickens its pace, a familiar thrill of danger mixed with exhilaration.
"You're treading on dangerous ground, Merrin," I call out, my voice cutting through the tense air. "Those symbols... they pulse with an ancient magic, one I've only read about in forbidden tomes. It's feeding off something here."
My gaze drifts to the central rune, its sickly green light seeming to intensify as Merrin draws near. A shiver runs down my spine, a primal warning that this place is alive—and hungry. "We should proceed with utmost care. The wrong move could unravel everything we've come for."
I turn to Jeane, who has been quietly preparing her protective ward. "Jeane, what do your instincts tell you? Is this the path forward, or a trap waiting to spring?"
The air pressure builds, making my ears pop uncomfortably. It's like the very atmosphere is pressing down on us, trying to force us into submission. I adjust my grip on my staff, the polished wood smooth against my fingers. This is the moment of truth—we can either push onward into the unknown, or retreat before the full weight of this place crushes us.
Jeane steps closer to the glowing symbols, her crimson eyes narrowed in concentration. The magic here feels... wrong. Ancient and twisted, like something better left buried. "I don't trust this." Her voice is low, barely above a whisper. "But we didn't come all this way to turn back now."
She gestures, drawing arcane symbols in the air with one clawed finger. The protective ward shimmers around them, repelling the oppressive energy. "Halie's right—the rune pulses faster now. And Merrin..." Jeane's gaze lingers on the rogue. "Your instincts are sharp. Proceeding down there might be what it wants."
She takes a deep breath, her voluptuous chest rising and falling slowly. "But if those symbols activate some kind of trap, we need to know what we're dealing with. Varrika, light another torch—we'll need the extra illumination in that tunnel."
I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves as I eye the pulsing rune warily. "Alright, here's the deal. That green light is getting brighter by the second, which means we've got a ticking clock on our hands. Either we take a look-see in this here chamber or we high-tail it out of here before the whole tower comes crashing down around our ears."
My eyes dart to the others, gauging their reactions. "Now, I ain't saying we should go charging in willy-nilly. But if there's a chance that sword is in there, we need to know. And if it's some kinda trap? Well, that's what we've got our fearless leader for, eh Halie?"
I glance over at the cleric, arching an eyebrow. "So whaddya say, holy one? You wanna take point on this one or shall I go first and see if the boogeyman jumps out to say hello?"
