As Merrin steps further into the tunnel, the air rushes past her face with increasing ferocity, threatening to extinguish her torches. The central rune's sickly green light illuminates the dark recesses, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Suddenly, a faint hissing noise echoes through the tunnel, and the floor beneath Merrin gives a slight, ominous shudder. A new detail emerges: faint, glowing symbols etched into the walls, pulsing in time with the central rune. A decision looms before Merrin: can she press on, or does she take a moment to investigate these new markings? The ground beneath her feet seems to be shifting, as if the tunnel itself is protesting her presence. The air grows thick with anticipation, and Merrin's grip on the rope tightens, her eyes fixed on the glowing symbols ahead.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I watch Merrin disappear into the tunnel, my gut twisting with unease. Magic always comes at a price, and I don't trust this sickly green glow or the way the air itself seems to press against us. But our path forward is clear, as much as it galls me. "Merrin!" My voice echoes in the tight space. "Don't go too far. We need to stick together if we're going to get through this cursed place in one piece."

I turn to the others, my expression grim beneath my scars. "Stay sharp, all of you. I don't like the feel of this tunnel any more than Seraphine does. Keep your weapons ready and your eyes open for traps or signs of collapse. And if that rune starts pulsing faster..."

I let the thought trail off, not wanting to voice the dark possibilities that crowd my mind. But they know as well as I do that magic this ancient is never without danger. I take a deep breath, the air thick and cloying in my throat. "Let's move out. Stay close and watch each other's backs. And Merrin - shout if you see anything that looks like it might eat you alive down there."

With a final glance at the ominous green light, I step to the edge of the pit, one hand on the rope and the other tight around my mace. There's no going back now. We've opened this can of worms, and we'll have to see it through to the bitter end.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I watch Merrin disappear into that cursed tunnel, her torchlight diminishing like a dying star. The air grows heavier with each passing moment, thick with ancient death magic and the sickly sweet scent of decay. The central rune pulses faster now—its rhythm matching my racing heartbeat. Jeane steps closer to the pit's edge, her clawed fingers tracing arcane symbols in the air as she concentrates. Her voice echoes softly through the chamber. Something lies at the bottom of that hole, something ancient and powerful enough to curse an entire tower with its presence. And now Merrin has gone straight into its lair. The malevolent energy inside the tower thickens around me, pressing in like a physical force. My wings instinctively half-spread, ready for flight or defense—though there's precious little room for either here. The stone beneath my feet trembles faintly; I can feel it groaning under its own weight. Jeane calls out into the darkness. Merrin! Wait. Let me consult the runes first. We don't know what lies ahead—or what price we'll pay for disturbing that sword. But even as I speak, I can see Seraphine and Varrika exchanging glances behind me. They're apprehensive, yes—but also eager to claim their prize before time runs out. The very air crackles with tension between our shared purpose and the tower's hungry curse. I take a deep breath, steeling myself against the creeping dread that wants to paralyze my thoughts. We came here for a reason—for power beyond mortal grasp, yes, but also to restore balance. To stop whatever madness has bled time itself open like a wound. Jeane raises her hands, tracing sigils of protection and insight in the air before her face. Her voice carries both authority and uncertainty. This is dark magic we're dealing with—older than any mortal tongue, deeper than the graves we tread upon. We proceed with caution, or not at all. The central rune pulses again, sending a fresh wave of cold dread down my spine. What have we gotten ourselves into?

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin eyes the glowing runes warily, her hand tightening on the mace. The air feels thick and heavy, like it's clinging to her skin. She glances back at Seraphine, nodding curtly. "Alright, alright, hold your horses," she mutters. "But I'm not waiting all day. This rope ain't gonna hold itself."

She takes a deep breath, trying to ignore the way her heart pounds in her chest. The central rune pulses faster now, its sickly green glow illuminating the way forward. Whatever lies at the bottom of that hole... it wants us there. Merrin takes a tentative step forward, her boots scraping against the stone floor. The tunnel stretches out before her, narrow and winding, the walls slick with moisture. She can barely see two feet ahead, but she knows she has to keep moving. As she proceeds, the air grows thicker, pressing in on her from all sides. A faint hissing noise echoes through the tunnel, and the floor beneath her gives a slight, ominous shudder. Merrin freezes, her muscles tensing as she waits for something to give way. But after a moment, the shaking subsides. She lets out a shaky breath, her heart pounding in her ears. She takes another step, then another, her eyes fixed on the glowing symbols etched into the walls. What lies ahead? Only one way to find out. Merrin tightens her grip on the rope and presses on into the unknown.
