Round 6 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin steps through the unlocked gate, the air within the dark tunnel seems to thicken, heavy with the weight of malevolent energy. The central rune on the gate now pulses with a faint, pulsing red light, casting an eerie glow along the walls. The mournful moan that echoed through the tunnel has grown louder, its melancholic tone sending shivers down the spines of the party members. Merrin's footsteps echo off the stone walls as she leads the way into the darkness. The ground beneath her feet is uneven, littered with jagged rocks and dust. As she ventures deeper, the air grows colder, and a faint scent of decay wafts through the tunnel, mingling with the stench of death. Suddenly, a section of the floor gives way beneath Varrika's foot, sending a loud creaking sound through the tunnel as she teeters on the edge of a hidden pit.
I unfurl my wings fully now—not for flight, but as a deliberate display of power, a way to push back against this oppressive dark energy seeping from every stone here. The central rune on the gate pulses again with its sickly red light; I can feel it like a physical thing pressing against my skin. "This place stinks of death and old magic," I say, more statement than complaint. "Merrin—good work on the lock, but that was just the first layer. Expect more surprises." My crimson eyes scan the tunnel ahead: a yawning mouth of darkness swallowed by shadows that seem to move wrongly. The ground beneath Varrika shifts treacherously; I see her teeter on the edge of whatever hellish trap we've stumbled into. "Hold!" I command, already stepping forward with arcane energy gathering in my palms. "Don't move an inch further." To Halie: "Bind that area now—quickly—and tell us what you sense beneath."
To Merrin and Seraphine: "Get back against the wall, stay close to each other. Varikka's fall might have triggered something worse down there." My wings beat once, creating a gust of air that pushes some of the thick dust aside, revealing more of the uneven floor—jagged rocks mixed with what looks like scattered bones. This place is alive in the wrong way—breathing decay instead of air. I can feel it clawing at my arcane senses, trying to pull me down into its history of violence and despair. But I've faced older evils than this crumbling tower, and I won't let it claim us so easily. [Jeane's Turn]
I swallow hard, my hands trembling slightly as I reach for my lockpicks. The ancient runes on the gate seem to pulse with an ominous energy, and I can't shake the feeling that we're about to unleash something terrible. "Alright, here goes," I mutter under my breath, selecting a slender pick and working it into the keyhole. "If this doesn't work, I'm blaming Jeane for not warning us better."
As I manipulate the picks, I keep one eye on the central sigil, watching for any reaction. The air in the tunnel feels thick and oppressive, pressing down on us like a physical weight. "There," I breathe as I feel the lock mechanism give way with a soft click. "I think we're in business."
I glance back at the others, my expression tight with apprehension. "Stay sharp, everyone. Something tells me we haven't seen the last of this gate's surprises."
Halie moved forward, her torch held high against the oppressive darkness of the tunnel. The ancient stone seemed to absorb what little light she could provide, and the air tasted of decay and something else—something older and more malevolent. "The runes," she said, her voice tight, "did you see them pulse? The central sigil does feel alive, in a way." She clutched her holy symbol, feeling its cool metal against her palm. "Stay together. We don't know what's down here."
Varrika had already stumbled over something—an ancient trap, perhaps—and Halie knew that every second they lingered increased the risk. But rushing blindly into darkness felt like inviting disaster.
