The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step back from the gate and look at Merrin. 'Can't say I like any of this', I mutter, my crimson eyes scanning the ancient stonework. The runes seem to pulse with a dark energy, even in the dim light of dusk. 'Those symbols... they're older than the common tongue, predating even the gods we worship now.' My fingers trace one particularly intricate design, feeling an oily residue that makes my skin crawl. 'This isn't mere decoration. These are wards meant to keep something sealed away.'

I turn back to Varrika and Halie. 'If Merrin can't pick this lock without triggering a trap, then we'll need to find another way in. The tower's guardians won't be friendly.' My gaze shifts to Seraphine, her eyes already glowing with arcane power. 'Stay ready, but don't cast anything unless I say so. We don't want to alert whatever's inside.'

My hand instinctively moves to the heavy mace at my hip, a familiar comfort against the growing dread settling in my gut. The air here feels thick, alive somehow, and not in a way that bodes well for intruders. 'So,' I address everyone, 'we've got a choice—try to force our way through or find an alternate entrance. Thoughts?'

Halie

Halie · Cleric

Halie steps closer to the gate, her silver cross held out as if for protection. She speaks in a voice barely above a murmur, but with clear conviction:

"This magic is wrong—it clings to the stone itself like rot." Her blue-grey eyes scan the runes, face set in an expression that combines religious reverence and stern warning. "We should not be here casually. Those wards weren't meant to keep out simple thieves."

She turns to face her companions directly: "Merrin, whatever you find on that lock, don't touch it without telling us all first." Her gaze shifts to Seraphine: "And you—no spellcasting experiments unless absolutely necessary. The backlash could collapse this whole tower on our heads." Finally, she looks at Varrika and Jeane: "If we're doing this, we do it together, carefully. No heroics for the sake of ego."

Halie begins to gather the tinderbox and torches, her movements efficient but deliberate. "We take shifts with these lights—too much illumination draws attention we don't want." She pauses, then adds something softer, more personal: "I've seen what happens when people underestimate ancient curses. Let's not add our names to those stories."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I crouch down to take a closer look at the gate's lock mechanism, my nimble fingers tracing the intricate runes etched into the weathered metal. The symbols are unlike anything I've seen before - older than the common tongue, predating even the gods we worship now. "Careful, quick hands," I mutter under my breath as I work to pick the lock. "No telling what kind of wards these sorcerers left behind."

The air feels heavy with centuries of weight and danger. I can practically feel the tower's malevolent gaze upon us as we stand before its sealed entrance. "Alright, listen up," I say, glancing back at my companions. "This lock is no joke. The runes are unlike anything I've ever seen. We need to be extra careful here."

I pause, sensing an unseen presence lurking just beyond the gate. My instincts scream that there's more than meets the eye to this ancient tower and its dark secrets. "But hey, what's a little undead and demonic magic between friends, right?" I flash a quick grin, trying to mask the fear gnawing at my gut with some gallows humor. "Just stay sharp and keep your wits about you while I take a closer look at this lock."

With a deep breath, I turn back to the gate, my hands trembling slightly as I work to bypass the ancient wards. Whatever lies beyond this threshold, I have a feeling our adventure is just getting started...and there's no turning back now.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand before the ancient rune-covered gate, my keen elven eyes tracing the intricate patterns etched into the stone. The air around us crackles with an energy I've only read about in dusty tomes, a dark power that feels both ancient and alive. "These wards are no mere decoration," I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. My gaze flickers to the heavy mace at my hip, a reassuring weight against the unknown dangers we face.
Turning to face my companions, I speak with precise, elegant restraint, as if each word were a carefully chosen spell component. "The runes are older than the common tongue, predating even the gods we worship now. They reek of a sorcery that has been lost to the ages—and yet, it seems to have found us here."
I take a slow step closer to the gate, my voice dropping to a near whisper. "Whatever lies beyond this threshold, I have a feeling our adventure is just getting started."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I step forward to block the gate, my mace gripped tightly in one hand as I study the ancient runes. The symbols are unlike anything I've seen before, older even than the common tongue. A sense of foreboding washes over me as I take in the sheer weight of centuries pressing down from the stone. "Careful now," I warn the others, my gravelly voice cutting through the tension. "Those runes could be more than just decoration. The air itself feels thick with darkness."

I turn to Jeane, who's already poring over the gate mechanism. "What do you make of those wards, sorcerer? Any ideas on how to bypass them without setting off a curse?"

As I speak, my eyes drift to the tower looming above us. It feels as though the very walls are watching, waiting. A shiver runs down my spine, but I shake it off. We've come this far - might as well see what secrets the tower holds. "Well?" I ask Jeane again, squinting at the runes. "Any way to get through that gate without raising an undead army or summoning demons?"
