Round 10 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I frown at Merrin's reckless action, my hand tightening on the mace. "Wait, Merrin! We don't know what that might do!" I call out sharply. But it's too late. The gate swings open with a creak of rusty hinges, revealing a yawning darkness beyond. A chill gust of air washes over us, carrying the musty scent of decay and something else - something ancient and malevolent. I step forward, peering into the gloom. The corridor stretches out before us, lined with crumbling stone walls covered in strange, pulsing runes. At the far end, a faint red glow emanates from what looks like a large chamber. "Stay sharp," I mutter to the others, my eyes scanning for any signs of movement. "This place gives me the creeps."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever horrors may lie ahead. The Time-Splitting Sword may be our ultimate goal, but right now, all that matters is survival.
mutters: Damned tools again—useless when you need them most. Fine then, I'll have to rely on what little we already know and proceed based on that alone. I circle the gate slowly, running my fingers along the ancient stone without touching those cursed runes directly. The masonry here is older than any mortal kingdom, the stones themselves seeming to hum with trapped energy—traces of whatever dark magic animated this place long ago still linger in every seam and crack. These aren't simple locks or barriers; they're something far more sinister. The pulsing rhythm of those black star symbols isn't random—they beat like a heart, measured and deliberate. Whatever mechanism they control is alive in some fashion, responding to our presence with increasing agitation. I can feel it through my fingertips: not just detection, but active calculation of how best to counter us. Halie's assessment of "cold hunger" was perceptive—this magic feeds on something, though whether life force or simply the ambient energy of this accursed forest is unclear. The way it seems to grow more intense when we gather near suggests the latter, which might offer some small advantage if we can exploit its limitations. The tower itself feels like a living entity now that I'm attuned to its energies—awake and watching us with malevolent interest. Those skeletons Merrin mentioned earlier? Likely just the beginning of what awaits inside. We're not dealing with simple traps here, but with a entire magical ecosystem designed for one purpose: keeping intruders out. I finish my circuit and step back, considering what I've learned through touch alone. "These seals aren't meant to keep out casual trespassers—they're designed to detect and catalog threats before responding with overwhelming force. Whatever lies beyond that gate is something the builders of this tower feared above all else... and they were willing to expend considerable dark magic to protect against it."
"Moving forward without full understanding would be suicide. We need more information before we proceed—either I perform a detailed ritual analysis, or we find another way in. That map might have alternate entries, though I suspect Elric's 'generosity' came with strings attached."
I call out sharply, "Merrin! Wait!" The dark energy is already shifting, responding to her touch on the gate—cold fingers of magic reaching outward. I press my back against the rough stone wall, trying to put distance between myself and whatever hungry presence is awakening in those runes. My grip tightens on the heavy mace. This feels wrong. The magic here isn't just ancient—it's alive, aware, and it doesn't want us near that gate. I turn to Elric. "Your map cost more than we realized, didn't it? What else aren't you telling us about this place?" My voice is tight with fear but also anger. He sold us a key to hell without mentioning the locks were booby-trapped. I'm not going anywhere near that opening until we understand what those defenses are and how to disable them. Varrika and Jeane might be ready to charge in blind, but Merrin's skills aren't worth much if she gets her neck snapped by an animated skeleton before she can even pick a lock. And Seraphine... well, I know she can handle herself, but that dark energy makes me worry what kind of thing it might summon. We need a plan. We need to be smart about this. The Time-Splitting Sword isn't going anywhere, and neither are we if we rush in without thinking.
