Round 6 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

"Merrin, you've successfully bypassed the defenses, but now you must decide how to proceed. Elric offers the map for 100 gold pieces, but you sense that his price is steep. As you examine the map, you notice that it seems woefully inadequate, and the air around you feels thick with tension and the weight of ancient magic. The hermit's words echo in your mind: 'Be careful, whatever's beyond this door knows we're here.' You must weigh your options carefully, as the path ahead is shrouded in uncertainty."
I move between Merrin and the gate, positioning myself as a barrier. "Merrin, stop. The dark magic around these runes is too potent. We don't know what kind of traps you might have triggered by forcing that lock." I draw my heavy mace, gripping it tightly with both hands.
Jeane steps forward, her crimson eyes narrowing as she examines the pulsing dark runes on the ancient gate. The air here is thick with tension and the weight of ancient magic. I can feel it crawling across my skin like tiny insects. The runes are not mere decoration—they're a warning. They pulse with dark energy, each star symbol seeming to draw power from some unseen source deep within the tower. Elric's map may be woefully inadequate, but that matters little now. We've already committed by entering this cursed place. She turns to face Seraphine and Merrin, her voice low and measured. The gate is open now, thanks to Merrin's skilled hands. But I doubt the tower's guardians will simply allow us passage without challenge. Halie positions herself protectively between Merrin and the doorway—wise caution indeed in the face of such potent dark magic. Jeane summons arcane sight, her eyes glowing faintly as she scans the immediate area beyond the threshold. I can sense movement within—the scraping of bone on stone, the rustle of decaying cloth. The skeletons Elric mentioned are already stirring, drawn by our intrusion. We must decide quickly how to proceed. My magic can provide enhanced vision and perhaps some protective wards, but it will not shield us from every danger lurking in this accursed place. The map may shift based on our intent or detection—Elric's price was steep for information that feels increasingly suspect. What say you, party? Do we press forward into the darkness, or do we regroup and prepare ourselves more thoroughly before facing whatever horrors await us beyond this threshold?
I step forward cautiously, my eyes darting between the intricate runes etched into the stone and the potential dangers lurking just beyond our sight. The air feels thick with tension, and I can't shake the feeling that something is off about this gate. Elric's map may have been useful, but I doubt it holds all the answers we need to navigate whatever horrors await us inside. I reach for my lockpicks, my hands steady despite the pounding of my heart against my ribs. The runes on the gate pulse with an eerie energy, and I wonder if they are some kind of warning or a trap waiting to be sprung. But we've come too far to turn back now. As I work on the lock, my mind races with possibilities. What could be inside this tower that would warrant such heavy defenses? And what price will we have to pay to retrieve the Time-Splitting Sword? I can only hope that our combined skills and wits will be enough to see us through whatever challenges lie ahead. I glance over at Seraphine, her face etched with concern as she studies the gate. She's got a knack for this sort of thing, and I trust her instincts. But even she seems unsure about what we might find inside. Taking a deep breath, I focus my attention back on the lock. The picks slide into place with a satisfying click, and I feel the tumblers give way under my touch. With one final twist, the lock yields, and the gate swings open with a groan of ancient hinges. Darkness yawns before us, and the air is thick with the scent of decay and something else - something ancient and powerful that sets my teeth on edge. I take a step forward, my hand on the hilt of my dagger, ready for anything. But as I peer into the gloom, a wave of unease washes over me. There's no way Elric's map is going to be enough to navigate this place. We're going to have to rely on our own skills and instincts if we want to come out of here alive. I turn to face the others, my expression grim. "Alright, listen up," I say, my voice low. "Elric's map is a bust. We're on our own in here. Stay sharp, watch each other's backs, and keep your eyes peeled for anything that looks suspicious. And whatever you do, don't trust anything you see or hear. This place is playing tricks with our minds, and we can't afford to let our guard down for a second."
With that, I step into the darkness, my heart pounding in my chest as I lead us deeper into the unknown. Whatever horrors await us inside this tower, I can only hope that we have what it takes to face them head-on.
I step back from the ancient gate, my eyes fixed on its pulsating runes. The dark energy radiating from them seems to crawl across my skin like an insectile caress. "Merrin, wait," I call out, my voice strained but firm. I turn to Halie and Jeane, who stand ready with their weapons. "The power emanating from these symbols is unlike anything I've encountered before. It feels... predatory." My gaze drops to the map clutched in my hand, its lines suddenly seeming crude and useless against the raw malevolence of what lies ahead. "Elric's map was a fool's offering. We should have known better than to rely on it."
I take a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic hammering of my heart. The air here is heavy, thick with the scent of old stone and something far more sinister—a miasma of forgotten spells and unquiet spirits. "This place is alive," I whisper, more to myself than to anyone else. My fingers tighten around the hilt of my staff, the wood cool and familiar against my palm. "And it knows we're here."
