The tower loomed before them like a monolith from a forgotten age, its stones blackened and crumbling under the weight of centuries. The air around it felt heavy, thick with the stench of decay and something else—something ancient and wrong. A cold wind whispered through the trees surrounding them, carrying with it the faint sound of distant voices that seemed to call their names before fading away into silence.

At its base stood an enormous gate, sealed shut by a complex web of glowing violet runes that pulsed with an ominous light. The magic emanating from the barrier was palpable, sending shivers down their spines and filling them with a sense of dread that settled heavy in their stomachs like lead weights. They had come so far, pushed themselves to the brink of exhaustion just to reach this accursed place. And now, standing face-to-face with the threshold between their world and whatever horrors lay beyond, doubt began to creep into their minds.

Jeane stepped forward, her wings tucked close against her back as she examined the runes with a critical eye. The sorceress's crimson gaze flickered over each symbol in turn, searching for patterns or weaknesses that might allow them passage inside without triggering whatever deadly traps undoubtedly awaited any who dared disturb this ancient resting place. "The gate is warded," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "Probably booby-trapped. Probably guarded by...

Halie moved to join Jeane at the barrier, her hand instinctively reaching for the silver cross hanging around her neck—a talisman against darkness both spiritual and arcane. The cleric's blue-grey eyes scanned the runes with practiced ease, seeking out any signs of malevolent intent or hidden mechanisms that might spell doom for those who lacked proper caution. "We've come too far to turn back now," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. "But we must proceed with utmost care. Let's try to open this gate peacefully first—there may be a way through without resorting to force." She pulled out the worn map from her pack, though it offered little comfort given Elric's warnings about its accuracy.

Merrin approached next, her halfling eyes sharp as she examined the runes with a thief's keen interest. Unlike her companions, the rogue saw potential in every lock and barrier—a challenge to be overcome rather than an obstacle to be feared. She circled the gate slowly, running gloved fingers over the cold stone in search of hidden mechanisms or weaknesses that might allow them entry without triggering whatever deadly traps undoubtedly awaited inside. "Hrmph," she muttered under her breath after a moment's examination. "Looks like we'll be doing this the hard way." The wiry woman glanced back at her companions, a wry smile playing on her lips despite the apprehension gnawing in her gut. "Alright lads and lass," she said with forced cheerfulness, "let's see what we can do about this stubborn lump of rock. Halie, keep that holy symbol handy—might need it if things go sideways."

Seraphine stepped up beside Merrin, her sharp eyes already scanning the runes for any hint of arcane knowledge that might prove useful. The elf wizard knew better than most just how dangerous such ancient magics could be—especially when disturbed by those lacking proper training or respect for their power. She turned to face her companions, her expression grave but determined. "The stones on either side of the gate are uneven," she said, gesturing towards the unstable foundation. "Suggesting the ground itself may be... unstable here." A shiver ran down her spine at the implications of that revelation. "We must proceed with extreme caution—one wrong move could trigger a collapse or...

Varrika moved to take up position on the opposite side of the gate from Halie, her powerful dwarf frame a reassuring presence as she scanned the area for any sign of movement. The fighter knew better than most how quickly situations could spiral out of control when dealing with undead guardians—especially those animated by dark magic as potent as what pulsed through these ancient runes. Her hand tightened on the haft of her mace as she considered their options. "This gate isn't going to open easily," she growled, her voice low and gravelly. "And I'd wager anything my ancestors would roll in their graves if they knew we were about to force our way into a tomb this old without proper precautions." She fixed each of her companions with a stern gaze in turn. "We need to find a way to disable or bypass these defenses without triggering whatever alarms or traps are undoubtedly waiting inside."
