The mirrors in the hall of reflections shudder again, their surfaces rippling like water as the whispers in the darkness intensify. Merrin's decaying form leans forward, her voice whispering a single word: "Fear." The ground beneath the party shifts, sending a few mirrors crashing to the floor. Seraphine stumbles, her hand grasping for a nearby support as the world around her seems to tilt. The nightmarish version of Merrin in the mirror beckons to her, its glowing eyes filled with a promise of power and control that Merrin knows all too well. Jeane's hand tightens around her crossbow, her crimson eyes gleaming with cold calculation. "We move forward as a unit—together or not at all—and we do it now," she says, her voice barely audible over the whispers.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane lowers her crossbow, her crimson eyes scanning the shifting mirrors with cold calculation. Fine—as long as we understand priorities. She gestures sharply at Merrin's decaying reflection. You have thirty seconds to extract whatever wisdom you think this... thing has before I decide it’s more hindrance than help. And Seraphine—her gaze shifts to her apprentice, suspicion clear in her voice—keep that power leashed unless you want to summon something even worse than what Halie accidentally called up. She turns back to Merrin, her wings beating slowly in agitation. Talk fast, rogue. What does it want? How do we pass through this maze without losing ourselves to these twisted reflections? Jeane’s hand tightens around the crossbow, ready to raise it at a moment's notice. Because make no mistake—if any of us starts seeing visions or hearing voices beyond what’s already in our heads, I will put them down before they become a liability. This isn’t a therapy session; it’s an extraction mission. She eyes the nightmarish version of herself in one of the mirrors—a creature of cold beauty with her own eyes glowing red like embers. And if my reflection tries anything... well, let's just say I've always wondered how many times I could shoot my own image before it learns to stay dead.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I take a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic beating of my heart as I watch Merrin’s decaying reflection lean forward, its eyes fixed on mine with an intensity that feels both terrifying and strangely compelling. The whispers in the darkness seem to grow louder, a constant drone that seems to be echoing the word “fear” over and over again.
Jeane is right—we don’t have time for this kind of introspection. Halie and Varrika are trapped, and every moment we spend here is a moment further from saving them. But at the same time, I can feel the power thrumming beneath my skin, a dark, ancient magic that feels both intoxicating and terrifyingly familiar.
My gaze drifts back to the twisted version of myself in the mirror. It grins at me, sharp teeth gleaming in the dim light, its eyes glowing with an eerie, otherworldly power. It’s like looking into a distorted funhouse reflection of my own soul, a side of me I've always tried to suppress and ignore.
I feel a sudden, overwhelming urge to touch the mirror, to reach out and see if this nightmarish version of myself is truly real, or just another illusion spun by this place. The air crackles with energy as I take a step closer, my hand lifting of its own accord.
"I understand," I say, my voice a low murmur that seems to be swallowed by the whispers. "We have to move. We have to get past this... whatever it is."
But even as I speak, I find myself unable to look away from my reflection. The creature in the mirror moves closer still, its decaying form seeming to lean right through the glass. Its voice is a low, rasping whisper that seems to echo directly inside my head.
"Seraphine," it says, my own name on its rotting lips. "You know what you are. You know what this power wants."
A chill runs down my spine at its words. It’s true. I do know. This place... it’s not just feeding on our magic. It’s forcing us to confront the darkness within ourselves, the parts of ourselves we've tried so hard to bury.
I feel a sudden, desperate need to understand this trial, to unravel its secrets before they consume me completely. To look away now would be like denying my own reflection, and I can already feel the consequences of that denial—an aching emptiness deep within my chest.
I turn back to Jeane and Merrin, my expression grim but determined. "You're right," I say, my voice stronger now, laced with a newfound resolve. "We have to move. But we also need to be prepared for what this place is showing us... and what it might try to make us become."
I look at my own reflection one last time before turning away, the image of the twisted version of myself searing itself into my mind’s eye. Whatever happens in here, whatever trials we face, I know one thing with absolute certainty: I won’t come out of this the same person I was when we entered.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's heart races as she watches her decaying reflection lean closer, the rasping whisper of "fear" echoing in her ears like a dark promise. She can feel the weight of Jeane's impatience, the tension radiating from Seraphine as she struggles to contain her own growing power. But even with all that, Merrin finds herself drawn to the twisted version of herself in the mirror, the creature's decaying form somehow more real than anything else in this nightmare landscape.

She takes a step forward, her hand reaching out to touch the cool glass of the mirror. The reflection seems to lean into her touch, its rotting fingers curling around hers as if trying to pull her through the barrier between worlds. Merrin's breath catches in her throat at the contact, a jolt of dark energy coursing through her body that feels both terrifying and strangely exhilarating.

In the back of her mind, she can feel the shadow of her own reflection, the twisted version of herself that has been growing stronger with each passing moment. It whispers to her, a seductive voice that promises power, control, an end to the constant fear and uncertainty that has defined her life.

But Merrin knows better than to trust that voice, no matter how much it tempts her. She's seen what happens when people let their fears and desires take control, when they give in to the darkness inside them. She's lived it, in the scars on her body and the nightmares that haunt her sleep.

So she tears her hand away from the mirror, taking a step back as she shakes her head to clear it of the cobwebs of fear and longing. When she speaks, her voice is steady, though there is an undercurrent of tension beneath the surface.

"I understand what this place wants," she says, her eyes flickering between Jeane's impatience and Seraphine's growing power. "It's feeding on our fears, our doubts, our deepest desires. It wants to twist us into something else, something that will feed its own power."

She turns back to her reflection, a sad smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "But I'm not going to let it win. We have to keep moving, keep pushing forward no matter what this place throws at us. Because if we stop, if we let ourselves get caught up in these twisted versions of ourselves... then we might never find our way out."

Merrin takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what she knows is coming. "So let's do this," she says, her voice firm with resolve. "Let's face whatever horrors this place has in store for us, and come out the other side stronger than ever. We have to save Halie and Varrika, but we also have to save ourselves. And that means confronting our own darkness, no matter how scary it might be."

She looks at Jeane and Seraphine, her eyes shining with a fierce determination. "I know this isn't going to be easy," she says, a wry smile twisting her lips. "But when has anything worth doing ever been? So let's get moving... and show this place what we're made of."

With that, Merrin turns back to the maze of mirrors, her hand tightening around the grip of her crossbow as she steps forward into the unknown. She knows that whatever awaits them in the depths of this twisted labyrinth, they will face it together... or not at all.
