Jeane hovered above the chasm edge, her crimson eyes fixed on Seraphine pressed against one of the shifting mirrors. The air felt wrong—charged with an energy that made her skin prickle and her wings twitch restlessly. She could feel the ambient magic pressing in, trying to worm its way into her mind.

"What is this place?" Jeane demanded, her voice sharp with barely contained anger. "What have you done?"

Seraphine's reflection warped in the glass, twisting into something monstrous before snapping back to her normal elven features. The wizard woman shook her head, her dark elegant hair whipping around her face.

"I don't know," she gasped, pressing herself flatter against the mirror surface. "The magic here... it's ancient and hungry. I can feel it calling to something inside me—something I've kept locked away for years." Her sharp eyes met Jeane's across the room. "And I think it's responding."

Jeane felt a chill run down her spine that had nothing to do with the cold air of the chasm. She knew what Seraphine was talking about—the succubus blood that ran through her veins, the demonic heritage she'd inherited from her father and fought so hard to control.

"Don't," she said firmly, her voice a low warning. "Whatever it is, whatever power you're feeling, don't give in to it. We need you clear-headed."

But even as she spoke, Jeane felt her own reflection shift in the nearby mirror, the image morphing into something darker, more monstrous before settling back into her own face. The ground beneath them trembled slightly, and another voice joined the chorus of whispers—loud enough this time to be heard clearly.

"Who dares disturb the rest of the forgotten?" it hissed, echoing through the chamber.

Jeane's hand tightened around her heavy mace, her wings spreading instinctively for balance as the ground shifted again. She could feel the magic in the air growing stronger, more insistent.

"We need to move," she said, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of Merrin or the ancient guardian they'd come to free. "Before this place claims us both."

Seraphine nodded, her face pale but determined as she pushed off from the mirror. The glass held her reflection steady now, but Jeane could see the strain in her posture, the way her hands trembled slightly.

"I have a plan," the wizard said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But it's going to require both of us working together—and staying very, very still."

Jeane felt a flicker of unease at that, but she moved closer anyway, her boots finding purchase on the shifting floor. Whatever Seraphine had in mind, they needed to trust each other now more than ever.

"What do we do?" she asked, her eyes never leaving the wizard's face.
