The Ancient Prison Guardian regards Seraphine's words with a hint of surprise, its expression unreadable behind its mask-like face. "Your proposal is... intriguing," it repeats, its low voice dripping with an air of measured consideration. The Guardian pauses, as if weighing the risks and benefits of allowing the party to enter the trial together. "However, I must inform you that the mirrors will not simply reveal your deepest fears and desires. They will also force you to confront the shadows within yourselves, to face the parts of your souls that you have tried to keep hidden."

The Guardian's gaze shifts to Jeane, who stands tall, her crimson eyes flashing with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. "Jeane, as one who has walked through mirrors before, I sense that you are prepared for this challenge. But can you truly say that your own soul is ready for the revelations that lie ahead?"

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I'm well aware of what mirrors can do—especially cursed ones. I've walked their planes and seen things that would shatter lesser minds. But you think that scares me? Jeane's laugh is sharp, cutting through the chasm air like a blade. I fear boredom more than any reflection. The demon woman steps closer to the portal, her crimson eyes fixed on its shifting surface as she considers Seraphine and Merrin in turn—two women whose souls are suddenly far more interesting than when this adventure began. You both wear your fears so openly now. It's... refreshing. Her voice drips with genuine admiration despite the sarcasm. The rogue, once so meek, now stands ready to face whatever horrors await. And you, my dear awakening wizard—Jeane's gaze lingers on Seraphine with something almost like concern beneath the mask of disdain— carrying an ancient power that could unravel reality itself and still willing to walk into a maze of mirrors together? The wings on her back unfurl slightly, catching a nonexistent breeze as she considers their unity. Very well. If we're to be honest about our deepest fears... Jeane's expression shifts subtly—something almost vulnerable passing across her usually guarded features before it hardens again into something calculating. Then know this: I fear losing control of my own power—the kind that turns allies into ash without thought or intention. And more than that, I fear being trapped here—not by the maze, but by whatever demonic influence might still linger in this tower. She extends her hand towards Merrin and Seraphine, a gesture that's half invitation and half challenge. So let us walk into this glass labyrinth together and hope our combined strength is enough to withstand what awaits. But know this—I won't hesitate to sacrifice one of us if it means saving the rest. Her eyes meet each of theirs in turn, unwavering and unapologetic. Loyalty has its limits—and we're running out of time for our friends down below. With a final nod, Jeane steps forward into the shimmering portal, her form dissolving into swirling light as she vanishes from their reality. The air around them seems to pulse with anticipation—or perhaps warning—as the last echo of her laughter fades away.

The portal waits now, its surface rippling like liquid silver—an invitation and a threat all in one. Will you follow?

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin takes a deep breath, her small form seeming to grow taller as she squares her shoulders. Jeane's words hang in the air, a challenge and a warning all at once. But Merrin meets their gaze steadily, a newfound strength shining in her dark eyes. If you fear losing control of your power, then perhaps it's time we learned to trust each other with it. She steps forward, her hand reaching out to grasp Jeane's before she can disappear completely into the shimmering portal. And as for you... Merrin's attention shifts to Seraphine, her voice softening slightly. ...I fear what this power might do to our friendship if we let it. But I also fear what it will do to all of us if we don't trust each other with it now. She turns back to the portal, the liquid silver surface seeming to beckon to her like a siren song. Merrin knows the risks, knows that whatever awaits them in the maze may shatter their fragile unity as surely as it could reveal the deepest truths of their souls. But we've come this far together, haven't we? She reaches out with her free hand, grasping Seraphine's as well. And if we're to face whatever horrors await... I'd rather do it with the two people who have seen me at my worst and still choose to stand by my side. With that, Merrin takes a step forward into the portal, her form dissolving into swirling light alongside Jeane and Seraphine. The air around them seems to pulse with an otherworldly energy, as if the very fabric of reality is bending and twisting to accommodate their combined wills.

And then, in a blink, they are gone. Vanished from the chasm beneath the collapsed bridge, their forms now lost in the glass labyrinth that awaits. But even as they step into this unknown realm, Merrin can feel something shifting within her—an ancient magic stirring to life, awakening to the presence of its kin. It's a sensation both exhilarating and terrifying, like standing on the edge of a precipice with no idea of what lies at the bottom.

But one thing is certain: whatever awaits them in the maze... it will change them forever.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel the cool surface of the portal against my skin, and then a sensation of falling, of being unmade and remade in an instant. When my vision clears, I find myself standing in what seems to be a vast hall of mirrors, each one reflecting back a slightly different version of myself, Jeane, and Merrin. The air here is heavy with an otherworldly magic, thick and cloying like honey.
I look at Merrin and Jeane, my heart pounding in my chest. We’re together, just as we planned. But the sight of so many versions of us—some more powerful, some more vulnerable—is both fascinating and deeply unsettling. I can feel the ancient power within me stirring in response to this place, a low hum that seems to resonate through every mirror.
Jeane's reflection in one particular mirror catches my eye. It looks so similar to her, yet there’s something different about it. A flicker of raw emotion in her expression that I've never seen on the demon woman herself. And then, beside her reflection, another figure begins to form out of the glass—a massive, winged being with obsidian skin and crimson eyes.
The creature solidifies, its presence filling the space around them, its wingspan dwarfing Jeane's own. It turns slowly, its gaze locking onto Jeane in a way that makes my stomach clench. This... this must be a reflection of what Jeane truly fears, manifesting before us.
I look at Merrin, whose reflections are multiplying rapidly, each one seeming to move independently of the others. Some are young and innocent, others older and wiser. But they all share the same core essence—that quiet strength and hidden courage that I've come to admire so much.
As for my own reflections... they’re a mess. A jumbled array of past, present, and future selves, all wearing different versions of my robes, each one carrying a different magical artifact or tome. But the most disturbing ones are those where my eyes glow with an intense, otherworldly light—a sign of the awakening power within me.
I feel a sudden, overwhelming urge to turn away from the mirrors, to hide from what they’re revealing about us all. But I can’t. This is why we came here. To confront our fears, to understand ourselves better so we can save our friends.
"I... I start, my voice so low it's almost lost in the air. I have to be honest now, as promised. "I see what this trial is. A forced confrontation with the parts of ourselves we try to keep hidden."
I look at Jeane’s reflection and the massive creature beside her. And you, Jeane... My gaze drops to the floor, unable to meet hers just yet. What do you see?
