As Jeane leads Zha'thik into the portal, the blue light envelops them both, and the air seems to ripple with anticipation. The group holds its breath as they feel the familiar tug of the chasm's gravity pulling them down. Suddenly, a loud, echoing voice booms from the depths of the chasm, "Who dares disturb the rest of the forgotten?" The sound shakes the ledge, making it difficult for the party to stand upright. Zha'thik lets out a warning growl, as if sensing the danger. Jeane's eyes narrow, her grip on her silver dagger tightening. "We mean no harm," she calls out into the darkness. "We're here for Halie and Merrin."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I've had enough of this farce! Jeane snaps, her wings flaring wide as she turns to face Seraphine and Varrika with a look of utter contempt. You two—you're supposed to be our strategists, our arcane powerhouses! And yet here we are, following the lead of a demon because Halie couldn't manage even basic summon control. It's pathetic. Her crimson eyes blaze with cold fury as she continues, This is exactly why I wanted to stay above ground—because I knew someone would screw this up royally. Zha'thik? We're trusting our rescue mission to a demon that probably has its own agenda? That Halie survived at all is nothing short of miraculous incompetence. She wheels around, her dark hair whipping out as she glares back down into the chasm. And now we've got some ancient guardian giving us dramatic monologues? Of course. Because why wouldn't this get even more ridiculous? Jeane's hand moves to her crossbow, loading a bolt with cold efficiency. Fine. You want a show of force? Let's give them one that doesn't involve summoning demons or losing our most competent scout to the depths. I'll go down there myself and handle this mess. Her voice drops dangerously low as she adds, But if Halie is dead—if Merrin is dead because of her stupidity—I swear by every demon in the Abyss that I will raise them both just to scream at their ghosts for being such incompetent fools.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's heart pounds as she listens to Jeane's cold fury boiling over into open contempt. She winces at the harsh truth of Jeane's accusations, feeling a pang of guilt for her own role in the chaos. Merrin had been so focused on her own tasks that she hadn't considered how Halie's impulsive summoning might impact their entire mission. And now, with Halie and Varrika lost in the depths, it's clear that everyone is feeling the weight of their choices. As Jeane turns to face the chasm once more, her crimson eyes blazing with determination, Merrin feels a surge of admiration mixed with fear. The sorceress is terrifying in her power and unpredictability, but there's no denying the raw courage it takes to offer to face an unknown threat alone. Merrin's hand tightens on her crossbow as the echoing voice booms from below once more. She swallows hard, trying to steady her nerves as she listens to Jeane's defiant response. The scout knows that they're all in way over their heads, but there's no turning back now. With a deep breath, Merrin steps forward, her voice shaking slightly as she speaks up. "I'm coming with you," she says, meeting Jeane's fiery gaze. "Halie and Varrika... they're my friends. I can't let you face this alone." She glances at Seraphine and Varrika, her expression grim. "Keep the portal open. We'll find them and bring them back. One way or another."

Merrin knows that her words are a gamble - there's no guarantee that Halie and Varrika are even still alive down there in the darkness. But she also knows that she can't abandon them to whatever fate awaits in the chasm's depths. With a final nod to her companions, Merrin steps forward, ready to follow Jeane into the unknown in search of their lost friends.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch Jeane's anger boil over, her words cutting through the tense atmosphere like a blade. She's right—Halie's summoning was reckless, and now we're all paying the price for it. My stomach clenches as I think about Merrin and Varrika down in that chasm, lost to us. Jeane's offer to go after them herself is both terrifying and deeply admirable; she's willing to face whatever horrors wait below just to save our friends.
I turn to Varrika, her expression mirroring my own fear and guilt. We exchange a silent understanding—this isn’t just about Halie anymore, it’s about all of us. With a deep breath, I step forward, my voice steady despite the fear coiling in my gut. "Jeane, wait." My eyes lock with hers, trying to convey the gravity of what she's proposing. "Going down there alone—it's too dangerous. We need a plan, a strategy. Let me prepare some counter-spells first. The energy down there... it feels different. Old magic, powerful. We can't just charge in." I glance at the shimmering portal, then back to Jeane, my tone pleading. "Please. Give me five minutes. Let me try to anticipate what we might be facing so we have something to work with when we get down there." My hands tremble slightly as I reach for a small pouch of spell components at my belt. "And Merrin... she's our best scout. We need her eyes and her skills if we're going to find them quickly. Together, we stand a better chance." I take another step closer, my voice dropping to a near whisper. "I know you're angry. But right now, we need your power, not your rage. Let's use our strengths, all of them, to get this done right."
