Round 42 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in Deep within the earth below the Whispering Woods; specifically, a descending staircase leading into the depths of the accursed tower's foundation. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
Varrika's eyes flash with determination as she stares down into the abyss where Merrin vanished. The scuttling sound grows louder, more frantic, and the air grows heavy with the scent of decay. She can hear Jeane's chanting behind her, the dark energy crackling like lightning in the air.
It's tempting to hesitate—to weigh their options and consider the consequences of their next move. But Varrika knows they don't have that luxury. Merrin is down there. Alone. And whatever ancient horror has woken in these depths, it won't wait for them to make up their minds.
She turns to Halie, her voice firm and commanding. "Halie, take my staff and go after them. If they're still alive down there… try to keep them that way."
Before Halie can protest—or even question Varrika's decision—she raises her mace in both hands and begins to chant a prayer to her goddess, drawing on reserves of strength she normally keeps carefully locked away.
The ground beneath their feet trembles, a deep, ominous rumble that seems to echo in their bones. Varrika feels a surge of power coursing through her veins, ancient and terrible, as the shadows around them seem to peel back, revealing glimpses of something massive and wrong, moving through the darkness below.
Varrika's lips curl into a feral snarl as she feels the ancient horror's gaze lock onto her position. "Good. Let it come."
With a roar of defiance, Varrika leaps into the abyss, her mace held high, ready to face whatever horrors await them in the depths below. The air is thick with the scent of decay and the feeling of ancient, malevolent power. But there's no time to hesitate. No time to think about the consequences or the dangers that lie ahead.
They have a job to do. A goal to achieve. And nothing—not even the darkest of horrors—will stop them from completing their mission.
Jeane's eyes narrow as she processes the error message, her fingers tightening around her staff. She'd expected some resistance from the tower's ancient magic, but this feels like a deliberate obstruction—a challenge presented by the very fabric of reality itself.
The crackling energy around her flickers for a moment before stabilizing, the runes on her staff pulsing with an ominous red light that seems to seep into the shadows around them. "Interesting," she muses aloud, more to herself than anyone else. "It appears even my access to the world's memory is being denied by this place."
She pauses for a beat, considering her next move. Without the full party status or recent events, her tactical options are limited. But that doesn't mean she has to stand here idle.
"Halie," Jeane calls out, her voice carrying an edge of command despite the uncertainty gnawing at her. "Take my staff and go after them." She gestures to the glowing artifact in her hands—a relic of immense power that thrums with dark energy. "If they're still alive down there… try to keep them that way."
Before Halie can protest—or even question Jeane's decision—she raises both hands and begins to chant in a language older than time itself. The air around her crackles with dark energy as she draws on reserves of power she normally keeps carefully locked away.
The shadows seem to peel back from the edges of her vision, revealing glimpses of… something. Something massive and wrong, moving through the darkness below. "Let it come," Jeane hisses, a feral grin spreading across her face as she feels the ancient horror's gaze lock onto her position.*
The ground trembles beneath my feet, a deep, ominous rumble that seems to echo in my bones. I watch as Varrika plunges into the darkness where Merrin vanished, her mace held high. The scuttling sound grows louder, more frantic, and the air grows heavy with the scent of decay. It’s like the earth itself is groaning in pain, or maybe in warning.
I feel a surge of my own magic course through me, a familiar warmth that chases away some of the cold that has settled in my core. My hands tremble slightly as I grip my staff, the runes etched into its surface seeming to pulse with a life of their own. We need to find Merrin and Varrika. Whatever is down there, whatever ancient evil they've stirred, we can't leave them to face it alone.
Halie's face sets in a grim expression of resolve as she readies her healing magic. The air around us thickens, heavy with the scent of decay and something else… something ancient and malevolent. A faint rumbling begins to vibrate through the stones beneath our feet, growing louder with each passing second. It’s like the earth itself is groaning in pain, or maybe in warning. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. This is it. The moment of truth.
I turn to Halie, my voice steady despite the fear coiling in my stomach. "Be ready," I say, echoing Jeane's earlier words. "If they call for backup—or if something goes wrong—you and I might be the only ones who can save them."
My gaze flicks back to the dark maw that swallowed Merrin, then to Varrika who is already moving towards the hole, her mace gripped tightly in her hand. She looks back at us over her shoulder, a silent command passing between us. We wait, poised on the edge of an abyss, ready to follow them into the very heart of darkness itself.
