As Merrin declares her plan to sneak past the Prison Guardian, the ground shudders beneath their feet, and the air seems to vibrate with anticipation. Elric's eyes gleam with a mixture of curiosity and concern, his gaze darting between the party members. "Very well," he says, his voice barely above a whisper. "I shall provide you with one piece of information: the Prison Guardian is bound to the Tower's core, where the ancient magic is most potent. If you can reach the core, you may be able to bypass the Guardian and claim the Time-Splitting Sword."

A section of the wall behind Merrin bursts open, revealing a dark, gaping maw that seems to stretch down into the depths of the earth. The Scuttling Sounds grow louder, and a wave of heat washes over the party as the air around them thickens with ancient power. The Ward Spirit of the Deep speaks up, her voice like a gentle breeze in the darkness, "Beware, mortals, for the Prison Guardian is not the only danger lurking within the Tower's depths. The Shadow Demons, rumored to be bound within the walls, will stop at nothing to prevent you from claiming the sword."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's spectral form flickers in the sudden burst of magical energy as the wall behind Merrin erupts. She's already moving before she fully processes what's happening—her ethereal body darting between her companions, positioning herself to shield them from whatever might emerge from that dark maw.

Her crimson eyes narrow as she takes in the scene: Halie demanding answers from Elric with her usual naive optimism; Varrika already in a fighting stance, mace ready to strike at anything that moves; Seraphine clutching her tome like a security blanket. And Merrin—her rogue companion issuing orders with that cold precision that usually means she's about to do something incredibly reckless or brilliant.

Jeane opens her mouth to speak—to offer some advice, maybe, or to point out the obvious flaw in Merrin's plan—but the sound of scuttling echoes up from below cuts her off. Something is coming. Something big, and fast, and likely very hostile.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I feel my heart pounding in my chest as the ground shakes and the wall behind me bursts open, revealing that dark, gaping maw. But I don't have time to be afraid. Not now. Not with whatever's coming up from below and the ancient magic crackling through the air.

My gaze snaps to the source of the scuttling sound—an ominous noise echoing up from the depths—and I see Halie demanding answers from Elric, Varrika already in a fighting stance, Seraphine clutching her tome like it's a lifeline. And Jeane—her spectral form darting between us, trying to shield us from whatever might emerge.

I know we're out of our depth here. This isn't just another dungeon to plunder or a monster to slay. This is ancient magic, older than any of us, and it's not going to be fooled by tricks or brute force. "Alright," I say, my voice tight but determined. "We do this smart. Varrika, Halie—you're with me. We'll try to sneak past whatever comes out of that hole."

I glance at Seraphine and Jeane. "You two—find a way to distract it or slow it down if we can't slip by. Use whatever magic you've got, but be ready to run if things go south." My eyes meet Elric's, narrowing. "And you—if you want our help with this Ward Spirit, you're going to tell us everything you know about the Tower and what we're up against. Right now."

I turn back to the maw, my dagger gripped tight in my hand. I can feel the power radiating from it, ancient and malevolent and all too eager to devour us. But we don't have a choice. We came here for the Time-Splitting Sword, and we're not leaving until we have it—no matter what we have to face or sacrifice along the way.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever comes next. "Let's do this," I mutter under my breath, and with that, I step forward into the darkness, ready to face whatever lurks in the depths of the accursed tower.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The air crackles with ancient power as the ground beneath our feet begins to tremble. Elric's eyes flash an unnatural blue, and his voice booms over the growing rumble—"Behold the Prison Guardian!"—a name that chills me to the bone even before I fully comprehend its meaning. The feeling of being watched, of a malevolent presence lurking just beyond sight, intensifies tenfold.
I can feel the magic pressing against my skin, a tangible, oppressive force that makes my own spells seem childish and ineffectual. This is no mere skeleton or dark sorcerer—this is something far older, far more terrifyingly powerful.
My hand instinctively moves to the heavy tome of arcane lore at my hip, but I know its pages hold no answers for this. Not against an entity born of this tower's deepest depths.
I see Merrin and Varrika shift into fighting stances, their weapons drawn, ready to meet whatever comes charging out of the earth. They are brave, foolishly so. This isn't a foe you can simply hack apart with blades or maces.
Halie is staring at Elric, her holy symbol clutched tight in her fist, her expression a mixture of fear and determination. She’s right to be wary—this old man reeks of the same foul magic that animated the skeletons. He could be leading us into a trap, or worse, summoning this Guardian on purpose.
I have to think. We need knowledge, not just brute force. The power of this creature is beyond anything we’ve faced so far. If we’re going to survive this, we need to understand its weaknesses, its motives—anything that might give us an edge.
The rumbling grows louder, the air thickening with each passing second. A deep, guttural roar echoes from below, chilling me to the core. It sounds like the world itself is about to tear open and swallow us whole.
I look at Merrin's plan to sneak past it. It’s risky, but what choice do we have? If we can reach the core, if we can bypass this Guardian... maybe then we stand a chance at claiming the Time-Splitting Sword.
My eyes dart to Elric again. He knows more than he’s saying. About the Tower, about the Guardian. And if he wants our help with this Ward Spirit, he’s going to have to give us something real to work with.
I take a deep breath, my heart hammering against my ribs. "Alright," I say, my voice steadier than I feel. "Merrin's right. We find a way to sneak past it or through it." I turn to Jeane, her spectral form flickering in the magical storm. "Jeane, if anyone can create a distraction, it’s you."
I glance at Seraphine, seeing the fear in her eyes but also the grim determination. "Seraphine, you focus on your magic. Whatever counter-spells or rituals you can prepare—we may need them." My gaze settles on Varrika and Halie. "Varrika, Halie, Merrin's leading this part of the plan. You two are her backup."
I turn back to Elric, my expression hardening. "And you," I say, pointing a finger at him, "You’re going to tell us everything you know about this Prison Guardian. Right now. The only reason we haven’t left your sorry ass out here is because you might be the key to getting that sword. So start talking, or I swear to every god in every pantheon, I will personally push you into that hole myself."
