Narrator · Narrator

Halie's hands remain clasped tightly around the silver cross, her eyes fixed on the Liminal Wretch as it continues to circle menacingly. The air seems to vibrate with tension, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows on the stone floor. Suddenly, the creature darts forward, its jaws wide open in a snarling snout. The group stirs into action, with Merrin drawing her heavy mace and Varrika readying her mace for a strike. Jeane's crimson eyes flash with calculation as she holds up a hand, and the creature hesitates, its momentum faltering as if waiting for further instructions.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's heart pounds in her chest as she grips her heavy mace tightly, ready to strike at a moment's notice. The halfling's sharp eyes dart from the growling creature to Jeane's outstretched hand and back again, her mind racing with calculations and possibilities.

She knows that unity is a powerful weapon in this place of shadows and secrets, but she also knows that trust is a commodity in short supply among their disparate group. Halie's faith may be strong, but Merrin has seen firsthand the dangers that can lurk beneath even the most pious intentions. And Jeane... the demon's motives are as twisted as the runes etched into her pale skin.

Yet despite her misgivings, Merrin feels a flicker of something almost like hope as she watches Halie take the demon's hand. Perhaps there is strength to be found in their differences, a way to use each other's unique skills and talents to navigate this treacherous path.

She takes a step forward, her mace raised and ready, but her eyes fixed on the Liminal Wretch. "I don't know if this will work," she calls out, her voice clear and steady, "but I do know we can't stand here and wait to be torn apart. So let's show them what we're made of, for better or worse."

And with that, she charges forward, her mace swinging in a deadly arc, ready to face whatever darkness awaits them.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I tense, ready to leap into action, my mace gripped tightly in my scarred hands. The demon's words still ring in my ears, her defiance mixing with Halie's faith and Seraphine's calculation. Merrin charges forward, her own mace swinging in deadly arcs, and I know I should be right beside her. But something holds me back—a flicker of doubt, a whisper of warning from the gods I've served all my life. This unity we're trying to forge... can it really stand against the darkness that lurks in this place? Or will our differences, our secrets, tear us apart from within? I watch as Halie steps forward, her hands clasped tightly around her silver cross, her eyes fixed on the Liminal Wretch. The creature circles menacingly, its jaws wide open, ready to strike. Merrin and Varrika are poised for battle, their weapons raised and ready. But I hesitate. My gaze darts from one face to another, searching for some sign, some clue as to whether this path we've chosen will lead to salvation or damnation. Jeane's crimson eyes flash with an otherworldly intelligence, Halie's faith shines bright even in the shadows, Merrin's resolve is unshakable. And yet... there's a fragility to our unity, a potential for fracture that worries me more than any physical threat. The demon's words echo in my mind: "Any sign of weakness... any hesitation or fracture in our united front..."

I take a step forward, my mace raised but not yet striking. My heart pounds in my chest as I try to reconcile the need for action with the fear of furthering our own destruction. The air is thick with tension, magic, and something else—a desperate hope that we might find strength in our differences. "Together, then," I mutter, more to myself than to the others. "But stay alert. Trust is a luxury we can't afford in this place."

And with that, I move to join the fray, my mace poised to strike at whatever darkness dares to threaten our fragile alliance.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's crimson eyes flash in the flickering torchlight as she watches Merrin charge forward with her mace raised high. Not bad for such a small thing, she murmurs to herself, approval threading through her voice despite the tension of the moment.

The demon turns her attention back to Halie and Varrika, who still stand poised but not yet engaged in combat. A smirk plays at the corner of her mouth as she notes the halforc's hesitation. Well, well... looks like even our resident muscle has some misgivings about this little united front experiment. She shifts slightly, the magical restraints at her wrists glinting ominously in the torchlight as if reacting to her barely contained impatience. Come now, don't tell me you're going soft on us, Varrika. Or is it just that you can't bear not being the center of attention? Her tone carries a sharp edge despite its playful lilt.

Jeane's gaze sweeps across each member of their makeshift group in turn—Merrin already engaged with the growling creature, Halie holding fast to her cross and seemingly determined to make this unity thing work, Seraphine watching with that maddeningly unreadable expression of hers. We don't have time for internal debates or moral quandaries right now. She snaps out a spell quickly—simple arcane light that casts a pale glow over them all.

The magical illumination seems to emphasize the stark differences between them even as it attempts to create a sense of unity—a demon with wings and horns, a devout cleric clutching her holy symbol, a calculating wizard surrounded by ancient tomes, a warrior torn between duty and doubt. Look at us—we're barely holding together as it is. She gestures dismissively at their disparate forms. But we are what we have to work with. So let's make use of what little advantage there might be in presenting a united front... for now. Her eyes narrow slightly as she focuses back on the Liminal Wretch, which has indeed stopped its circling and now hovers uncertainly, perhaps thrown off by this unexpected display. Let's see if your gamble pays off, Halie. Because if it doesn't... The demon's voice drops to a dangerous purr that barely rises above the sound of Merrin's mace swinging through the air nearby. If these creatures decide our unity is an affront to their twisted sense of order... well, I'd much rather face whatever consequences come then spend another moment pretending we're all best friends here. Jeane holds up her hands, palms out—one still shackled by magical restraints that glint ominously in the torchlight—but her stance is defiant rather than surrendering. So let's put this little experiment to the test. Show these pathetic things what happens when you mess with those who refuse to be divided. She turns fully towards the Liminal Wretch now, her crimson eyes locked onto its hovering form as she speaks directly to Halie beside her. And if it doesn't work... well, I hope you're ready to reconsider some less savory options. Because my patience for this noble sacrifice nonsense has reached its limit. Jeane's fingers flex as if already preparing to weave more complex spells—restrictions be damned—but she holds back, waiting to see how the Liminal Wretch will respond to their united front. Let's dance then... and hope your faith is stronger than my doubts.
