Halie's eyes still held a flicker of fear, but her grip on the holy symbol at her belt remained steady. Jeane's gaze lingered on Merrin before shifting back to Halie, her expression softening slightly. "I understand your concerns, Halie, but we can't let fear dictate our actions. If you're willing, I'll prepare a charm to... help you stay focused during the reflections."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I step forward, placing myself between Jeane and Halie, my hand raised in a placating gesture. "Hold on, both of you." I glance at Halie, seeing the fear in her eyes, and then turn to face Jeane directly. "Jeane, I appreciate your concern for our safety, but this isn't the way."

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I'm about to suggest. "Listen, I have an idea that might solve this problem. What if... what if we send Halie in first? Alone." The words taste bitter on my tongue, but I press on. "She can be our eyes and ears inside the labyrinth. If anything goes wrong, she can warn us from within."

Halie's gaze snaps wide with shock, and Jeane looks as though she might object, but I hold up a hand to forestall them. "Hear me out," I say quickly. "It's risky, sure, but it's better than none of us going in or all of us being exposed to these... reflections at once."

I turn to Seraphine, my expression serious. "Seraphine, use your magic to create a link between Halie and us. That way, if she's in danger, we'll know." I look back at the others, my voice softening. "Please... let Halie do this. She's the only one of us with the strength of conviction to face whatever lies ahead. And if she fails..."

I trail off, not wanting to finish that thought. Instead, I step closer to Halie, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You have our faith, Halie. You have our trust. Go in there and find out what awaits us. And whatever you see... whatever you learn... come back to us."

I turn to the others, my eyes hard with determination. "In the meantime, we prepare for whatever might be coming out of that labyrinth. Jeane, work on your spells. Seraphine, research any protective wards or charms. I'll keep watch and scout for any signs of trouble." I glance at the dark portal, a shiver running down my spine. "Whatever happens in there... we face it together, when Halie returns."

I turn back to Halie, my voice soft but urgent. "Are you ready? This might be the hardest thing you've ever done, but it's crucial. For all of us." I squeeze her shoulder gently, offering what comfort I can. "Go. And come back to us, Halie. Please..."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I tighten my grip on my crossbow, keeping it trained on the creature as I listen to Seraphine's analysis. A flicker of fear runs through me at Merrin's suggestion, but I force myself to consider it.

I turn to Halie, seeing the apprehension in her eyes. I know she's right to be afraid—this whole situation is beyond anything we've faced before. But Merrin's idea... it could work. Halie, I say softly, stepping closer to her, I understand your fears. We all do. But Merrin might be onto something here. I glance at the dark portal, a shiver running down my spine. If you go in first, alone... you could scout ahead, let us know what we're dealing with. And if it's too dangerous, you can come back out. I squeeze her shoulder gently, offering what comfort I can. We'll be right here, ready to support you however we can. I turn to the others, my voice firm and resolute. But make no mistake—if anything happens to her in there, we're going in after her. No matter the cost. I look at Jeane, then Seraphine, meeting their gazes with steely determination. We stick together, come hell or high water. That's our way. I turn back to Halie, my expression softening. Are you ready? This might be the hardest thing you've ever done, but it's crucial. For all of us. I step back, giving her space to make her final preparations. Go. And come back to us, Halie. We're counting on you. As Halie steps towards the portal, I feel a surge of pride mixed with fear. She's the strongest among us, but even she may not be ready for what lies ahead. I keep my crossbow trained on the creature, my muscles coiled and ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane steps forward, her crimson eyes fixed on Halie with an intensity that borders on predatory. Merrin's plan is reckless—sending our only truly moral compass into a den of iniquity alone? It's like tossing a lamb to wolves. But perhaps... her voice trails off as she considers the possibilities. Perhaps there's a way to ensure Halie remains untainted by whatever horrors lurk within. I can prepare a ward—a spell designed to protect her from the worst of the reflections, to shield her mind from corruption. It won't be perfect, but it might just give her the edge she needs. She turns to Seraphine, her expression serious. Wizardess, while you work on creating our link with Halie, I'll prepare this ward. And Merrin... her tone sharpens slightly, if you truly care about Halie's safety, you'll keep that creature at bay long enough for us to complete our preparations. We don't need any more variables in play. Jeane begins gathering components—a small vial of blessed oil, a strip of white fabric, a silver needle—and starts tracing arcane symbols in the air, her lips moving in silent incantation. This will take time, but it could mean the difference between Halie returning to us whole... or not at all. Her fingers move with practiced precision as she weaves the spell, each gesture deliberate and powerful. The air around her shimmers faintly, filled with swirling patterns of arcane energy.

This ward won't protect her from everything—nothing can shield a mind completely from its own darkest thoughts—but it will give her an anchor to cling to if the reflections become too intense. She glances up at Halie, her crimson eyes gleaming with something almost like respect. You have our faith in you, Halie. Don't let us down.
