Halie's eyes, once bright with conviction, now hold a flicker of doubt. She steps back from the group, her hand tightening around the holy symbol at her belt. "I will stay," she says, her voice firm despite the tremble in her voice. "But I must warn you all: if we proceed, our reflections will reveal our deepest fears. Be prepared for the worst." The ground shudders once more, as if in response to Halie's words, and the dark portal behind them seems to pulse with an otherworldly energy.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's expression darkens as the portal pulses with ominous energy. Fine. If you won't come with us willingly, then I'll have to... persuade you. She raises her hand, arcane symbols glowing on her palm as she prepares a spell that could bend Halie's will—but before she can cast it, Merrin steps between them.

Jeane's eyes narrow dangerously. Out of the way, rogue. This doesn't concern you. But something in Merrin's determined stance gives her pause. You're not usually this... heroic. What game are you playing?

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch Jeane’s arcane energy build, her intent to subvert Halie’s will plain in the fury glinting in her eyes. But I see the uncertainty in Merrin's stance too—it's a bravery we've rarely seen from our most pragmatic member. Before either of them can act further, I step forward, placing myself between Jeane and Halie.
My voice is calm but firm as I address both women. Enough. This isn’t the time for force or coercion. I turn to Merrin, my eyes searching her face for understanding. And you—whatever plan you have in mind, speak it plainly now. We don't have time for games when our very sanity may be at stake. I take a deep breath, feeling the cold air of the tower on my skin. The air crackles with unspoken tension and the looming presence of the labyrinth behind us. My mind races, trying to find a solution that will keep us united while still honoring Halie's concerns.
Perhaps... perhaps the answer isn't to force anyone in or out. I turn back to Jeane, my tone softening slightly. You're right about the strength in pairs. But what if we let each person decide their own path? Halie stays if she chooses, to be our anchor. The rest of us enter together, facing whatever trials await. I look at Merrin again, my expression a silent question. And you... if you have a plan that could help us navigate this, we need to hear it now. We're all in danger here, and secrets will only make it worse. My gaze sweeps the group once more, meeting each person’s eyes in turn. We stand on the precipice of something unknown and terrifying. Whatever lies inside... we face it as one, or not at all.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I watch in horror as Jeane raises her hand against me, the arcane symbols glowing with malicious intent. No! This is madness—you can't force anyone into that place of reflection. My grip on my holy symbol tightens until my knuckles turn white. The thought of Merrin stepping between us fills me with dread—she's always been too brave for her own good.

When Seraphine intervenes, I feel a surge of gratitude towards the wizardess. Thank you, Seraphine—at least someone understands the danger we're courting here. But as she suggests allowing each person to choose their path, my stomach drops. Choose? How can any of us truly choose when faced with such... temptation? The Keeper said these reflections would show our deepest selves—what if that means revealing things about each other that could tear us apart? I take a step back instinctively as Jeane demands to know Merrin's plan. The rogue's usual pragmatism seems to have given way to something more... reckless. Merrin, wait—I don't think any of us is prepared for what awaits beyond that threshold. The consequences could be... catastrophic. My voice trembles slightly as I continue, If we're going in there at all, we need to do it with our eyes open and our hearts pure—at least as pure as we can manage after everything we've seen here. I look around the group, my blue-grey eyes filled with barely concealed fear. Please... let's think about this. There must be another way—a safer path into the tower that doesn't involve facing our own darkest truths. My voice softens as I turn to Seraphine, I know you want us united, but sometimes unity means acknowledging the dangers and finding an alternative. This feels like walking blindfolded into a snake pit—we don't even know what these reflections are capable of. As the ground shudders again beneath our feet, I cling to my holy symbol as if it's the only thing keeping me grounded. If we do insist on entering that labyrinth, then let it be with clear minds and united purpose. We can't afford to stumble in there half-prepared, each of us carrying our own private terrors. I look at each member of the party in turn, my voice dropping to a near-whisper. I won't abandon you—never that. But before we take another step forward, let's be absolutely certain that whatever awaits us beyond that threshold is worth the risk to our very souls.
