Round 32 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin steps back from the mist, the glowing eyes within it seem to fixate on her with an unnerving intensity. The runes on the gate continue their unsettling dance, each symbol pulsing with dark energy. Suddenly, the air is filled with a faint whispering, like the soft murmuring of a thousand voices. The mist swirling around Merrin's feet begins to coalesce into tendrils that reach out towards her, as if beckoning her closer. The whispering grows louder, and you can make out words among the murmurs: "Turn back... while you still can..." The voice is ancient and malevolent, echoing through your mind like a dark prophecy. The party must decide how to proceed next: do they heed the warning and retreat, or do they steel themselves and push forward into the unknown?
I keep my mace at the ready, watching the mist swirl ominously around Merrin. "Don't let those tendrils touch you," I call out, my voice gruff with warning. "Whatever's in there doesn't want to help us—it wants to pull us in."
The whispering grows louder, echoing through my mind like a dark promise. I shake my head, trying to clear the noise. "We can't trust anything this tower says," I mutter. "It's just trying to scare us off so whatever's inside can keep its secrets safe."
I turn to the rest of the party, my expression grim. "Stay sharp. If we're going in there, we need to be ready for anything. Halie—keep those prayers up. Jeane and Seraphine—we'll need your magic on our side. Merrin..." I hesitate, knowing she's likely to rush in headfirst. "Don't get too far ahead of us. We're stronger together."
The runes on the gate continue their unsettling dance, each symbol pulsing with dark energy. Whatever lies beyond that barrier, it's not going to be easy. But we've come this far... might as well see what we're made of. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever trials await. "Alright then," I say, my voice a low growl. "Let's see what this tower's got in store for us. Jeane—see if you can disrupt those runes. The rest of us..." I square my shoulders, mace at the ready. "We're going in."
I step closer to the gate, my wings unfurling slightly in a show of barely-contained power. The runes pulse with dark energy, each symbol seeming to watch me as I approach. "This isn't just a warning," I say, my voice carrying an edge that cuts through the oppressive atmosphere. "It's testing us—seeing if we have the strength to push past fear itself."
The tendrils of mist reach out towards Merrin again, and I raise my hand, arcane energy crackling between my fingers. "Merrin, don't move. This thing is trying to isolate you—that's how it feeds."
I turn to Seraphine, respect clear in my expression despite the dangerous situation. "Your caution serves us well—this place demands it. But we can't let fear become paralysis." My gaze sweeps over the group. "We face this as one—together—but with each of us ready to bring what we are best at."
I focus back on the gate, the runes' pulsing seeming to sync with my heartbeat now. "The magic here is ancient and powerful. I can disrupt the pattern—I think—as Jeane suggested... but it won't be subtle. Whatever's inside will know exactly where we are and what we're doing." My eyes glint dangerously. "So if we do this, we go in HARD—no hesitation, no second thoughts."
The runes flare as I reach out with my spellcraft again, testing their boundaries. "What say you? Do we trust each other's strength enough to face whatever lies beyond... or do we turn back now and admit this tower has beaten us before we've even entered?"
I wait for the group's response, tension in every line of my body as I stand ready to act on whatever decision they make.
I fall back half a step from the mist that clings to Merrin, my hand instinctively moving to grasp the silver cross hanging at my throat. "Whatever this is—this thing trying to grab her feet—it feels wrong. Wronger than the rest of this cursed place, which is saying something."
The runes pulse with an almost mocking rhythm as I speak, and I grit my teeth against their insidious effect. "Jeane's right about one thing—I can feel it too. Whatever's beyond that gate isn't just watching us... it's measuring our wills like a butcher appraising meat."
I meet Jeane's eyes across the circle. "Disrupting those runes won't be subtle, and whatever's inside will know exactly what we're doing. But the longer we stand here letting this thing play with us, the weaker our position gets." My voice drops, though I can't stop the tremor of apprehension that creeps in. "I've been praying since we entered these woods—the goddess hasn't answered directly yet, but... she doesn't always answer in words. Sometimes she answers in feelings."
I look at each face in turn—Seraphine's steady resolve, Varrika's unshaken determination, Merrin's reckless bravery. "You all know I'm not keen on walking into obvious traps. But this?" I gesture at the gate with my free hand. "This isn't just a trap. It's an invitation to a game we can't afford to lose."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself. "If we're going through that door, we do it together—no half-measures, no hesitation. And I'll have protective prayers up the whole time. But..." My eyes narrow as I fix my gaze on the mist still swirling around Merrin's feet. "...you two"—I address Varrika and Jeane directly—"keep an eye out for anything that looks like it wants to pull her in."
Finally, I turn back to the gate itself, lifting my cross slightly. "Whatever's waiting beyond this point... let it come. We've got more than just steel and spellfire on our side tonight."
