Round 1 Transcript

Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

N

Narrator · Narrator

The Narrator lets the room settle and lays out the immediate proposition in concrete terms, making clear that the cast must answer what is being asked of them before anything can move forward.

J

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane Cromwell leans back in her chair, dark eyes scanning the faces around the table with an appraising gaze. Let me ensure I understand this proposal before we commit ourselves to a fool's errand or a death march: We are being asked to infiltrate a tower that has stood unbreached for centuries, said to be filled with undead horrors and demonic guardians, all to retrieve a single artifact—a sword. The rewards you speak of are indeed tempting, but so too is the promise of a quick grave. I have no interest in dying for gold or glory; I want to know precisely what intelligence we possess about this tower's layout, its inhabitants, and exactly how many of us are truly prepared to face such peril. If this is merely a suicide mission disguised as an adventure, then count me out—there are other, safer opportunities for power.

H

Halie · Cleric

I won't be party to sending anyone to their death out of greed or foolishness. We need more than vague promises and lurid tales if we're meant to succeed where others have failed. My oath demands I know the risks, the plan, and what we stand to gain beyond mere coin. I want a full accounting of what's known about the tower's interior, descriptions from anyone who has seen these 'guardians' firsthand, and absolute honesty about our capabilities compared to what awaits us there. Courage means facing truth, not ignoring it. Speak plainly, or count me out before we've even started.

M

Merrin · Rogue

I shift uneasily in my seat, the weight of my lockpicks heavy against my thigh. A tower filled with undead horrors and demonic guardians? That sounds like a recipe for a very short adventure. I glance around the table, meeting each gaze steadily. Don't get me wrong, I'm always up for a challenge. But we need to know what we're walking into before we can even think about picking those locks. I tap my fingers on the rough wooden table, considering. I want to see any maps, hear every scrap of information about the tower's layout and defenses. And most importantly, I need to know who in this group is truly prepared to face whatever nightmares might be waiting for us in there. My eyes flick to the sorcerer, Jeane, a small smirk playing at my lips. No offense intended, but a wizard's spell might not be enough against skeletal hands or demonic claws. We need fighters who can handle themselves in close quarters.

S

Seraphine · Wizard

I sit forward, my elbows resting on the rough-hewn table, fingers steepled before me as I listen intently to the proposals being laid out. The flickering candlelight catches the edge of my silver holy symbol, a small comfort in this oppressive atmosphere.
The Whispering Woods have always been a place of dark rumors and greater dangers than most dare imagine. My eyes meet those of each of my companions in turn, gauging their resolve. To think that something as potent as the Time-Splitting Sword lies at the heart of it... it’s both terrifying and thrilling.
I take a slow breath, considering the risks and rewards. I agree with Jeane – we need more than mere tales to base our strategy on. If we are to attempt such a feat, we must have a thorough understanding of what we face within those walls. My gaze drifts to the heavy, rune-carved door at the end of the room, an ominous presence even sealed shut. But I also believe that knowledge, properly applied, can be a powerful weapon in itself.
I turn back to the group, my expression serious. I have studied many texts on ancient magic and the nature of undead creatures. Their weaknesses, their habits... these are not mere academic pursuits but could prove crucial. I reach for a worn leather-bound tome from my pack, placing it gently on the table. Here is what little we have

V

Varrika · Fighter

I lean back in my chair, my weathered hands clasped tightly around my mug of ale as I listen to the plans being laid out. The weight of my mace rests against my leg, a constant reminder of the battles fought and those yet to come.
